Drive shaft
OK boys here's one for ya. Just had my Maxi put in the rear and now when I take off (street) in 1st gear I have a slight soft clunk before the real rorque is apllied by the motor. So got underneath tightened and checked everything to find nothing. Then sussed out the drive shaft and she has about 3mm of play on the spline. Not the uni's (NEW) but the slide in/out spline. I'm wondering whether when they did the swap they slipped the splines out and didn't put em back in the same place????? Any ideas. Should there be ANY movement in teh shaft tolerance. I would have thought NOT????
Anyone got a cheap (Good) rear tail shaft fro me to try.

Hmm sorry cant help yah there but speakin of tail shafts I need either a disco II front dirve shaft and output flange or some other sort of double cardon drive shaft as the standard one and the extended one i already have will both bind up to the shit house (xcase end) when i get max droop out of my driver side front wheel.
Also goin double cardon means that my farken exhaust is in the damn way

Double cardan front hilux shaft is the same lth as RR front.
you have to machine the output flange T/case and pinion flange on diff, centre needs to be made larger and redrill new holes.
bolts in.

Did you see/hear it bind up or did you have yr hand on it?
no pun intended
I find it hard to beleave that yr tail shafts are binding up after such little suspension mods....
Its only the front at the xcase output, b4 i used to hear a ting when i droped the front driver side and that ting was my drive shaft hitting on my cross member, this is what stoped it from binding up b4 but it also stop me from acheiving full droop, so anyway i got a scoluped one and as soon as i removed the standard one and did a small test flex i found that only another 2cm below where it originally hit the xmember it was wantin to bind badly. (well it wasnt really binding because i had no movement goin round) It was hitting b4 the two points on the UV became vertical so I am assuming that obviously when they become vertical its only gonna get worse.
I hope that made some sorta sense...............
Well i have electrolisis eaten thru my timing cover and i have just been told it can't be welded up , so no it's not all well in my Rangie land ! then the water pump impellors are just about non exsistant so im up for another one of dem tooooo . then dropped my radiator onto tne bottom hose pipe and cracked it offfff aarghhhhhhhh not happy Jan .
discourage inbreeding , ban country music ! Rover didn't make computers as they just couldn't find a way for them to leak oil .

90 in the shop... been there for weeks. Started as some rusty body cappings, then a bit of a clean up of the galvanic corrosion on the body, then needed new doors , and has ended up as a total repaint. Won't be a blue 90 anymore, gonna be flashy bonatti grey. just wanna get it back in time for xmas now!

Mates got his pto adaptor and winch to mount centrally in his Defender hybrid. Just need to get the pto drive bit from thomas winches so the drive can come out backwards.
This will keep us busy over christmas mounting it behind the truck cab and running the cables under the truck so it will winch the car forwards and backwards using the one cable.

things were good in rangie land until last weekend on the
W.A. hilly weekend ( see trips thread ) put a few dents
in the rangie. totalled pass side front door pushed in front
gard & nice crease in rocker panel. coming out a creek crossing
hit the exit in wrong spot & put it on its side.
on another hill took out the steering dampner & made
the drag link look like a banana. wish i could have
stayed for sunday as well from all reports it was just
as tough. one suprise the fibre glass flares handled it
just took the paint off , cars now in the shed$$$$$$$$$$
