i think i might be the only person on here that would like to do this conversion so here goes.
i have a TD42 non turbo that is very young (130K approx.) and has also got a rebuilt injector pump and injectors (has writing on pump and blows diesel smoke at hard pulls but not normal driving). the motor is very strong and just needs a turbo to get its boogy going.
now, for reasons that diesel lovers wont understand, i dont like diesel that much and neither does my missus. i would like to take out and sell my TD 42 an replace it with a 4.5 pettie motor.
what could i expect to get for my motor?
do i need a new bellhousing etc.?
are the chassis mounts the same for both motors?
ive seen scot mcgills one for sale and am interested but it depends strongly on how much i am able to get for mine
What year? does it have cam driven vac pump or altinator?
From what I was told the tb45 will bolt straight up to bell housing n mounts, I also looked at this swap but didnt go through with it.
i would expect being more efficient it would prob not need as much boost to go hard and im sure i also read they have stronger rods. the tb45 run a weaker rod than a tb42 but they are interchangable where as the tb48 is not
dave metcalfs gq runs a tb48 with light mods n it goes realy well n reliable as
1hd-fte 5 speed tiptronic 105 series
78 series troopy for work
gu ute play truck For sale
FTE 80 series sahara Sold
would can i expect to be able to get for my TD though?
4.8 everyone thinks is better so if i can find the gear for the conversion for the right price ill go that route nstead of the 4.5.
will the 4.8 handle a turbo better or much the same?
For your motor you maybe lucky to get about $2500 complete with all bolts on... They're are alot cheaper now and seeing that you dont have turbo on its not worth as much also...
The 4.8 can handle a turbo but to be honest what are you trying to build if its for a daily driver just leave a standard 4.8 .. should you go down the turbo path you will need to beef up more stuff and most turbo 4.8s are over 20k.......

4.8 about 2.5g for the same sort of thing but without clutch and flywheel
wreckers around brisbane. just keep looking and they turn up once or twice a month. at the same time, i found a 4.2 EFI for $1650 with 150 on the clock... the 4.8 had 120K and the 4.5s are all around the 140K mark. most of the 4.8s i found were about $3500 or so, but i guess i called on the right day or got the right people.
i just went through the yellow pages and called one after the other.
