Engine Swap - Over the pits?

Post by Hybrid »

Just a quick one. I'm looking at putting my 1.3 head on a 1.6 bottom end. In Queensland do I just need to get it engineered and mod plated or do I have to take it down to the pits at the department of transport. I only ask because I've got bolt on RUF and extended schackles which will need to be taken back to stock.

Mine has a mod plate from an engineer for the engine swap. But I bought it already done. I don't think it has to go over the pits but you'll wanna make sure your engineer looks past the RUFF etc before bothering. Also not much point getting a mod plate for one thing and not another IMO, unless you don't mind swapping back to stock (lol says me with 5 inches of lift)

should just be the plate from an engineer!
shouldnt be more then $80 or so.
try to find one (mechanic) engineer that does the plates first and consult him.
if you dont like what he has to say find another one!!
they prefer you to ask them first.
I think you still have to submit something to the transport department about the engine conversion and they have to know the new numbers aswell
not 100% on this but the engineer- mechanic will be able to let you know!
I hate going to weddings because all the grandma's used to poke me in the ribs saying you're next, you're next. They've stopped doing it since I started doing it to them at funerals.

Thanks guys. I was hoping it would just be a plate job. I'll head down the local mechanic and see what he's got to say.

in perth you apply for it (with engine numbers etc), wait for approval, fit the engine, then go over the pits.

Lame.

I swapped out a 1.6 efi in a vitara for an import. All I had to do was to go down to QT and advise them of the new Engine Number. No charge, no plate, no pits!

I think you could get away with just advising them of the new serial number. They won't know what they are looking at the counter.
