Well, after suffering several months plying the F3 freeway on my half-worn MTRs I decided to bite the bullet and splash out on some AT treads. As much as I love my trusty old MTRs, they were simply getting too noisy at highway speeds, no matter how often I rotated them.
After some scouting around on the net and sussing out the latest all-terrain tyre offerings I decided to go with the Mickey Thompson ATZ for the GQ.
I didn’t want the GQ to look like a 2.5T roller-skate so I stuck with the 315/75 R16 sizing, plus this was the size listed on my Eng Cert.
I reckon they are the best looking AT on the market, and up close the tread looks more aggressive than I was expecting.
I bought the tyres through Ryano at Fourby’s in Moorooka QLD and had them fitted to new rims at Fourby’s and shipped down to me in NSW for a very reasonable cost. Big thanks to Ryano for the excellent service and fast turnaround on the fitting and delivery!
This morning was the first test up the freeway and all I can say is damn these things are quiet! I didn’t realise just how much noise the old MTRs were making. The biggest problem I now have is trying to get rid of all the other squeaks and rattles in the truck that I couldn’t hear over the dull roar of the MTRs! I can also have my stereo at a reasonable volume again and hopefully postpone industrial deafness!
They track beautifully and are well behaved. I still need to dial in the ideal tyre pressures as at 32psi the outside row of blocks isn’t hitting the road. Like most tyres they should soften up after a few thousand ks.
I hope it rains soon so I can see how they hook up in the wet. If the block pattern and siping is any indication, they should work very well.
Thanks again Ryano for the great service!

ryano also fitted my car up with ATZ's(company car)GU Patrol, have done 75,000klm on them so far in 1&3/4 years have regualy balanced & rotated every 10,000k as advised..they are just starting to become a little slippy in the wet now,,,but they will be fine for at least 10-20,000 more klms...
I will have no hesitation of getting ryan to put them on again!!!!!

Like an all-terrain... good in the dry, ordinary in the wet sloppy stuff. How do these tyres perform off road?
Certainly good enough to get you through a tough spot if you need to.
