sloshy wrote:I ran hydro assist last year and will this year
And yes it took alot of time and money to comply too run rd3 last year.
Had to buy a whole new high steer set up, and refit hydro
He Sloshy..... This was not aimed at you personaly ...It just happened to be a talking point on a rule clarifacation.. SORRY BUD!!
We wont be competing this year ona technicality on how you interperatethe rule. But you get that.
TT just open a can of worms ,When something is in bnlack and white in the ules and change the ruleing.
As I said there is nothing that I have said on this forum that is aimed at any one person......JUST A OPTINION ..THATS ALL.
Darren - it is not how the rules are interpretted at all. We have no intention of stopping what is a legally approved conversion from competing. We set up the rules to require DOT approval on many of the conversions so that we did not have to spend hours scrutineering vehicles prior to each event.
The requierment for DOT approvals was also intended to stop the rules from being interpreted differently by different committees.
As per my last post - some rules may need to be clarified and until the clarifications are put into writing (rule ammendments) then people will just have to rely on the committee members to obtain the correct meaning of the rules. It is the committee members who put the rules together - so they are best placed to clarify the rules - not the general public. The general public can ask the questions, which will be promptly answered, and then the answers should be accepted - not argued. If anyone wants to argue the rules they should join the club, attend meetings and make a contribution.
Darren, your vehicle would be allowed into the event if it was approved as an ICV - which it is not. Until you can produce paperwork to show that it is an ICV then you will not be able to compete in that vehicle. Stop trying to stir up trouble on a public forum. You know why you can't compete and it has nothing to do with rule interpretations.

Well lets just say that I am enjoying the time spent with the camper hooked up to the back
Without trying to stir trouble and no disrespect to Peter but a lot of people had to change their vehicle configuration in order to meet THE ABOVE PUBLISHED rules and did so in order to comply.............now it seems that the club can interpret rules in a different manner.
I am sorry but no matter which language it is interpreted into the following means no hydro assist - I don't care what any body says the following can not be interpreted

yep I hear ya, I guess there will be quite a few that won't be competing and I know that there are quite a few that are not happy with the way the rules have been inforced, or should I say lack there off.
Every obstical worth driving has an element of risk, without risk there can be no glory!
Like I've said 2 or 3 times now, the people who are most vocal about the rules have been offered to become involved at a club level. Get on the committee and see if you can do a better job yourselves. You can never get it right in the eyes of a every person no matter how fair you try to be. But no vocal person has yet offered to assist or to find a better solution at the club level.
We try to be as fair as possible with the rules that we have. (yes - we set the rules I know - but that is why we, the committee, are best placed to interpret the rules)
Every competitor that changed their vehicle configuration to comply for round 3 will comply for round 1 this year provided that there have been no additional modifications since round 3 that place them outside the rules.
The rules haven't changed and the rules are NOT being interpreted differently.
Linc, you have not considered 3 words in rule 6.8.3 (well not in the way we considered them anyway). "non standard factory" - (as I remember the committee meeting discussion) was meant to rule out the grafting of factory fitted hydro assist steering out of some earthmoving equipment vehicle or truck. Rule 6.8.5 states that "Full hydro steering shall not be used." If we wanted to rule out hydro assist and full hydro we would have just plainly stated "Hydro assist or full hydro steering shall not be used". In trying to be more sussinct we have actually made it more confusing and that is why we will need to ammend the rules - but that is also why we are best placed to interpret the rules until this occurrs. (in retrospect we should have writted "DOT approved hydro assist steering is allowed")
On a general note - surely no-one really thinks that we have sat down and said "we don't like this guy - we'll say no" or "this guy is cool - we'll say yes". There are 2 people that were in the comp who I have said 'no' to for this round. The answer will change to 'yes' if the vehicles are brought with-in the rules before the event. Both of these people I know and get along with fairly well. One I have even assisted in the past in sponsorship. There are other queeries that I have said 'yes' to and yet I have never met or spoken to these people before. There is no favourtism - only an endeavour to be as fair as possible with the rules we have. I know that in Darren's case it does not seem fair, and I agree and apologise - but that is how it is.
We will endeavour to create a new set of rules - or re-write the ones we have. But I will want the following clauses be included:-
1. Ask questions about the meaning of rules by all means - but accept the answers you are given. (as Darren has - he doesn't like the answer - but has accepted it)
2. This is a club event not a commercial enterprise. It is run by volunteers for the love of sport. It's meant to be fun - if you are not happy then don't compete.
There are alot of people who compete in this event and have fun doing it. It is a club event. Rounds 2 & 3 will be run after the club's AGM and hence by a new committee. Let's hope that we have some new blood and that existing members don't say 'we've had enough - let's just go and have fun like everyone else'. Otherwise there will be no future events from the club.
Ok guys, I think everything is clear now. Lets bring on round 1 have have a ball driving. I hope there are new tracks this year. I would like to see tracks that challenge different trucks in different areas. Lets make this a fun time. Only 2 weeks to go.
It would be good to see a full turnout again like in the past (not round 3).
