BETTER BRAKES
BETTER BRAKES
Hello all!
I am chasing some better stopping power for the GQ. Does anybody know where I could get, say duel piston callipers or better?? And has anyone ever come across drilled rotors??
Thanks for the help.

Go slotted, not drilled, they fill with mud and shizzle and wear ya pads much faster. BRaided lines also help.
there are full replacement brake systems available (discs/calipers etc), but the prices are probably more than your car.

Pretty shaw you can only run 16' wheels or bigger on the 4.8 brakes.
Not 100% though.

the GQ ones? Wreckers is hte best placeHoonz wrote:care to share the info where to get the calipers?
occasionally there are the complete brake upgrade kits on ebay for around $4000, and I think theres a 4wd place in Vic that has a complete 4 disc 4 caliper upgrade but its well over $5000...
I havent done it but 99.9% sure they would bolt up. Knuckles are the same in the front, and woulndt think Nissan would have a different flange on the back diffs just for 1 model.Hoonz wrote:do GU 4.8 brakes bolt up to GQ diffs?
Dont 4.8s have ABS though? would this cause any probs running calipers in a non ABS truck?
Has anyone actually done it?

Some people believe GQ's are overhyped shitboxes.[/quote]

It could be done, just leave the ABS controller out, Make sure your master cylinder & caliper hydraulic ratios are correct & you should be away.Sandy Rut wrote:

TDK engineering
TDK engineer do a 6 spot caliper fronts and 4 spot caliper rears to suit a GU not sure on GQ you could call them find out.
CNC machined out of 6061 aluminium direct bolt up fit. The caliper is manufactured to fit inside 15" wheels.
The piston sizes are the correct ratio for the original master cylinder.
Pads run from $120 to $600 a pair.

Also know alcon are doing brake upgrades, V8 supercar spec gear but you got to run min 17" rims. And cost is ++++

Luke I bought a GU front diff for my ute and bolted my GQ brakes straight on without ANY mods mate so I don't see a drama.
I am unsure what model GU housing it was (but I can't imagine Nissan changing it for one model) and the GQ brakes were from an 89 TB42 wagon
