ok so you clicked on this cause you like beer.... well, if you have a parts gq truck, your gona have a fridge full of beer for this australia day weekend!!!
so anyways once again, still paying the price for being stuck in the mud.. stuck deep in the mud for 4 hours at glasshouse... Clutch... alternator and now...
My starter motor has shatz itself. And push starting gq's by oneself is rather difficult unlike my old corolla..
Sooooooooooo I'm kinda desperate to get back on the road for work, and recreation this weekend. Has anyone got a parts GQ and would let me ravage it for a starter motor thats in a known working condition for a carton of ones choice of beer? And money if deemed appropriate?
Im not sure how effective I would find it pulling it apart and giving it a clean out, I think the damage has been done. Has anyone pulled one of these suckers apart and achieved much in terms of getting it spinning again? Im assuming getting one second hand, but maybe not mud tortured is the best choice. quick clean swap.. Bearings still good, windings still good...
Im hopeing someone out there is willing to take a minute of their precious weekend for me to collect a spare starter motor if anyone has one, in return for a good nights worth of grog!!! or cash
Either way, Beer.... starter motor! Im north side of Brisbane based... Help!
cheers guys and girls... Ian..
Hope everyone has a smashinly good weekend anywho! I'll try while im stuck at home :p

Beer... Starter motor... beer.. starter motor!
Can't help you with another starter motor but I have rebuilt mine twice now from mud dunkings, would think I would learn to stay away from the stuff. Its not that hard a job, just needed new bearings and brushes. They are a pretty solid unit and can take a beating. Oh yeah I had to put the stator in a lathe and skim a bit off the slip rings for a better contact. They are expensive suckers so sometimes a rebuild will be a better option than buying another one and a secondhand unit is normally in about the same condition anyway. I think all new bearings and brushes aswell as a new solenoid was about 100 bucks from memory, maybe a bit more. A bit better then 600-700 that they were asking for a new one.
