Hello all!,,,,help!
i removed the dizzy to change the o ring cause it was leaking, tried desperately not to move anything but i think i have, it wont start, i gives off a few pops here and there, i dont have a timing light, is there any way to get it going again?

G'day Warren,
Turn your engine over by hand or by selecting fifth gear, handbrake off and pushing the car until the notch on the crank pulley is in front of the "O" timing mark on the timing belt cover right behind the crank pulley. You might need a torch cause it's a bit hard to see.
Then check which spark plug lead on the distributor goes to number 1 spark plug (the one nearest the radiator) and use a texta or some paint to mark the distributor just below the cap where that lead goes into the dizzy cap.
Remove the cap and see if the rotor is pointing directly above the mark. If not (and this is very precise), you need to remove the distributor again, turn the rotor by hand and refit. Carefull when refitting though as it's easy for the rotor to move forward or back a couple of teeth.
Then, refit the distributor cap and it should start.
If it doesn't look like it's going to start at all, remove the distributor again and turn the rotor 180 degrees (so it faces exactly opposite what it is). Once the engine starts, loosen the timing advance screw and adjust until you get a good clean idle. Road test and if you don't get any pinging at low or high revs, you're done!
You might want to have the timing checked by someone who's got a timing light after you get it going again.
Next time you change the seal, don't forget to align the engine as indicated above and mark the position of the rotor on the side of the distributor so you can line everything up when you refit it.

You can turn the dissy left and right until you get it running, then take it somewhere close by and get the timing checked properly.
doesn't help you now but you really should have made a mark on the dissy with white-out or a texta. also the timing settings should be under your bonnet on a sticker for reference.
