schwitzer Turbos
schwitzer Turbos
Looking at finally turboing the td42 gq and think I will go with a schwitzer kit.
I have a couple of options:
Denco Schwitzer-Turbo Dyn S2A
4wd Systems ?
Does anyone know what model turbo 4wd systems use and has anyone used there kits?
Anyone know what model shwitzer is good for the TD42?
I want to run no more than 12 psi boost, initially no intercooler and I have 2 1/2" exhaust which will have no mufflers.
4wd is used for play and touring towing a camper, not a comp car.
Thanx for any info

yes, would be 3200azzad wrote:When you say better setup, whats the difference, have you worked on both?
Are you sure its 2200, not 3200?

I'll give another vote for Denco, I had issues with mine (the dude that fitted it was the issue he had no dyno), and denco called ME and offered to get it all sorted out free of charge.. this was over 12mths after having had it fitted.
went up to Wagga, they dyno'ed it, upped boost, fitted a few freeby goodies to say sorry, and called me a few days later to see if I was happy.
Try gettin that service out of 4wd systems. there was a thread yonks ago of a dude in tassie that bought suspension that was wrong, from what he was saying on the forums, they never returned his calls or replied to his emails.
i am sure as sh1t my mate said 2200 mab thats not installed tho
i beleive the 4wd systems ones use an adaptor pipe from the factory manifold and from the quick look i had at the 4wd systems and the fair bit of time spent in the bay of cars with denco kits the denco kit is alot better finised

having screwed about with some turbo setups now, it is defnately not a place you want to try to save a few $$.
Spend the coin on a well designed and put together system. Being able to knock on their door is not much good whe your touring and the turbo craps itself or the oil line that feeds the turbo splits pumping you engines lifeblood onto the sands of the simpson etc ..

I hear you and Im not going to skimp but I havent seen a 4wd systems setup and they were unable to show me other than the crap photo on their website.
I do know that they dont use the original manifold with an adapter pipe though.
It appears that I can get the Denco stuff through a local guy at a good price now and I will go with it.
Thanks for your input

My mate bought the TD42 kit from 4wd systems about 2 or 3 years ago. it was the denco kit - and it was freighted from denco in wagga direct, and with denco stickers on it.
You might want to check to see if this is still the case, as the only difference in buying that kit from either denco or 4wd systems at that time was the price. Also i think the price was closer to $3200 rather than $2200.

Yeah, I know you wont regret the money you spend on a turbo, I dont think I could drive a naturally aspirated diesel ever again.
I know that the DTS setup is good (mine has done many many many k's originally installed in Perth) and doesn't leak or burn oil/ make noises etc, having it myself, I bought it already installed... im not sure what "DTS" is all about or the brand of my turbo, strange for me to be ignorant in this kinda field, but if it ain't broke don't fix it... I haven't had the need to find out yet..
My father got a kit put together which is DTS (I really dont know if this is a brand or a kit or a company) also, and that comes with the custom manifold, the air filter box and brackets, and the 3 inch pipeing to suit, and they do braided oil lines, change your oil, new filter, new air filter and remove the pre filter... Then they get it on a dyno and tune it properly adjusting your fuel flows to suit etc...
I think thats around the 4 grand mark, especially if your just anyone off the street. Dad doesn't have any mechanic contacts.. So Im not even sure if this is a high price or fairly standard for a off the street price installed and tuned...
But yes, if your gonna do it. I would pay the dough to do it properly!!! And I think everyone here with a turbo can vouch for the fact that its worth every single penny!

I've got the DTS kit. Very good quality. Drives well. Drives REALLY well with gas. Very useable from 2000 to 3400 rpm. With roof rack and camper trailer will sit on 130 on a 40 degree day. doesnt get hot unless you're really giving it hard time in 40 plus temps.
Uses a Mistubishi TD05 Turbo from memory (same core as an evo lancer they said). Running about 8psi. I havent sussed how to upload photos yet but I can email you a pic of the DTS kit fitted if you want.
Fuel consumption unloaded is 13l/100km round town with a lead foot.
It doesnt come with the bits to bypass the pre-filter but any exhaust shop can get you a 3 inch mandrel bend.
If you're going for gas as well eventually you can save some money if you do them both at the same time.
12PSI is a probably bit too much without an intercooler.

My truck is happily running 12-14. Not to say that i know if its doing it any good, but the temperature never seems to budge. (then again, maybe this is because your running gas also. they might back it off a few pound)MikeH wrote:12PSI is a probably bit too much without an intercooler.
My old mans truck runs 12, and that was the DTS setup tuned by the installers on the dyno, they reassured him that this was the economical psi to run it at for longevity and power increase.
neither of us have intercoolers, and I give my truck a much much much harder time then his babied GQ.
I have been getting 11-12 litres per hundred k's. This is lots of city traffic, for work etc. my gq will happily boost from 1800 all the way to 3600 with a somewhat even feeling torque band.
Dads GQ got 14.4 litres per 100k's towing a nearly 3 tonne caravan @ 90-95k's an hour back from longreach to bris. Its all on paper to prove it.
And yes, the "Mistubishi TD05 Turbo" Sounds right.
I would recommend that kit to anyone, I'm yet to hear of any negative stories about the DTS setup?
