Showers attached to the car heater
I had one of those showers that are attached to the car motor that supply warm water via an electric pump on a GQ for years with no trouble. I've since upgraded to a GU and it's been suggested that I don't put one on as it may stuff the cooling system. Any thoughts?
I also have good prices on GPS's, car navigation devices, Hema map CD's etc. at www.handheldsystems.com.au

Yes connect in the heater circuit.-Scott- wrote:I thought they're installed in the heater circuit, and leave the primary engine cooling circuit untouched.
The only thing which can go wrong (that I can see) is a loose/broken fitting causing a coolant leak. But that could go wrong at any time anyway.
Ive got a glinde on the GU havnt had any poblems. been on 4 years.
I use a home made one, works the same, just holds more water,,only because im a tight ass & didnt want to pay $400+ for somthing that could be knocked up for $80 inc pump, anywayhave used it on my hylux 2years, then GQ 4years now GU 3years & still no dramers,,I am also a rep!! so my GU drives around 45-50,000klm per year happy showering

A Mate ans myself have made up sh*t loads of stainless steel ones and have fitted them to hilux's, GQ's, GU's, Cruisers etc. Have had no Problems. Have found behind the bullbar is the best place to fit them if you don't have a winch fitted. No worries with the cooling system. On my brothers GQ we also got a second radiator hooked in line with the heat exchanger for overheating probs when towing my comp truck.

I have a pirhana brand one in my GU ute, has been there for a year , no problems, didn't even have to cut the original heater hose, just disconnected the original hose and attached it to the heat exchanger then a new bit of heater hose from the exchanger back to where I had disconnected the original hose. Easy as just a tight fit with all the orther things under the bonnet.

Aren't they just a heat exchanger on the heater circuit? Ie they don't actually tap into the coolant, they just let the coolant heat the shower water?
If that's the case then I can't see any reason at all not to use one, personally. As far as the cooling system is concerned it would just be about as significant as turning the heater on or off.

This is not legal advice.
Yep had one for years with no problem with the exchanger at all.
Only problem is the pump didnt like being submerged in salt water
Yes the cooling system in the vehicle just heats the shower water going thru a diffrent tube inside the unit. The water tempreture is governed by the heater control. Awsome unit i reckon and if you are say doing a cape york trip then the pump comes in handy to fill say water tanks.
