Hilux Axel code, G895

Post by Trusa »

Chasing some info for a mate's hilux and his axel code reads G895

I've done the searches, spent all arvo searching.

G =8"
89 =what ratio???
5 = 4 pinion LSD

I can't find the 89 ratio code in any of the lists anywhere. It's a gen 3 dual cab with a 3L so it should be a 4.3 right?

Are you sure it isn't G295

That would be a 4.1

I don't have info for G895

Ratio codes i know of;

07 = 3.900
08 = 4.110
10 = 4.375
14 = 4.875
25 = 4.556
28 = 4.300
29 = 4.100
31 = 3.91
38 = 3.42
43 = 3.56
54 = 3.90
66 = 3.07

Thanks v6hilux but it is definately written as G895, hence the confusion. I found a slightly more extensive list than that in my search but it stopped at 71.

If nobody else has heard of it either then I will post up what ratio it is when it comes out this week. I was hoping to offload my old 4.3 to him.

Here is how to do a quick determination without opening a diff;

Use white liquid correction fluid or a dob of paint with a small mark on the diff housing and another on the adjacent rotating pinion seal protector that turns with the driveshaft. With one wheel in the air and the other on the ground, turn the wheel and count the turns until you got the marks to line up again, exactly.

The 4.3:1 is 43 driveshaft rotations to 20 free axle rotations - (43/20)x2=4.3

The 4.55:1 is 41 driveshaft rotations to 18 axle rotations - (41/18)x2=4.55

Yeah, thanks that's a good tip and very easy to do. But he blew the centre so wanted to know what ratio it was to know if he would buy my centre or not. Also was curious about the code!!!????

In that case, pull the diff centre out and count the teeth!

Yeah only way to tell for sure and it has to come out anyway. Crown wheel teeth divided by the pinion teeth. 99% Sure my my 4.3:1's are 43 crown and 10 pinion.
plenty of parts on the bench

Yeah, that's the plan was just hoping to know before hand so we could have an appropriate replacement ready to go straight in but doesn't look like we will know until after we remove.
