Middy leaf spring advice
G'day all i'm doing some suspension work on my middy at the moment, just asking for anyones advice or experiences. Below are some pics of where i'm at at the moment. Currently stock shackles on the front with 7 leaf packs and cross country shocks with swaybar dissconnected. The rear is 2'' extended shackles, 5 leaf packs and same brand shocks. Happy with the rear at the moment. The pictures show the full up travel and down travel. Rear shocks are to short could probably drop more and the tyre is also jammed against the inner guard so will need offset rims before anymore drop will happen. Also need to extend rear bump stops about 50mm to stop spring going past being flat.
I really want to get the front working like the rear though, the pictures show it at the extremes of its travel, i'm not sure whats limiting things. Can anyone suggest where I should go with the front end ?
cheers

id take the shocks off to confirm they aren't whats limiting travel..
not sure how bad the W'ing of the spring is.. mine does that on the rear but i haven't had any issues cos of it yet.. ie, spring life, etc
i dont know what length your rear springs are at the moment but measure them off the vehicle and see what you can find thats a touch longer.. that might give you a bit more arc of travel with the extended shackels on the rear..
check out my shackle angle on the rear compressed side
you could probably get away with just replacing the 2 main leaves, depending on the location of the center bolt..
doing the same to the front with longer shackles and caster plates could help too..
all this would take a bit of mucking around but depends how much work you want to put in in order to get a good result?

In those photos I had it disconnected. Since i've but 60 series rears in the front which has made a big difference. Sorry no pics cause net is to slow but now shocks are way to short. Now i've got the swaybar connected and it doesnt limit travel, I can still be on the bump stop and have the other side topped out on the shockHANCOCK wrote:Are you still running a sway bar?
