Turbo Kits
Turbo Kits
G'day, have been doing a fair bit of reading so i'll only ask 1 question.
I'm getting rid of v8 hilux (fuel chewing excuse of a 4wd) and going down path of td42 again.
Safari (through ARB) quote was $6200 for turbo and intercooler kit, a bit steep. So alot of you have said that it can be done for alot less, would like to know prices for other makes or if anyone has found good prices/kits combined with a bit of self fabricating?
Thanks.

yeh intercooler kit is $3000
get the turbo kit and get an ebay intercooler for a few hungy
and plumb it up
you'll get a better intercooler then the safari unit
(less bends and better flow and larger unit)
if u can afford it get the T3 high flowed for some good fun

the kit on my GQ ute was fitted before I bought it, It was a $6800 kit, turbo, cooler, snorkel, clutch, 3"exhaust fitted and dyno tuned. Cooler was listed at $1698.
It was done by performance offroad, now TJM woolongabba, brisbane.
Goes well enough but I would not spend the money on it myself, If you have a bit of hands on knowlage you can get similar results cheaper or use better components (for results not quality) for the same money.

intercooler
Yeah thanx guys, your not wrong the intercooler from arb is expensive, i cant see how they justify asking the same as the turbo for it. Was thinking before hand of getting an ebay intercooler, what brands to get or watch out for from experience? Also is the schwitzer turbo better than safari? Or AXT or Denco? Ive owned an sd33 and a td42 before but have never gone down the line of turbo, so abit lacking in experience in that field.
Hey hoonz, have you been to both dynolink and arb or know who is better at tuning up here?
I'll head down to Opposite lock and check out their schwitzer deal this weekend.

Re: intercooler
All the kits are good. Its just HOW good (some inc complete exhaust, others dont etc)., and the service you get with it. I have experience with Denco, adn would go them again in a flash. 3 mates have/had Safari, and dont have a bad word to say either.Feenz wrote:Yeah thanx guys, your not wrong the intercooler from arb is expensive, i cant see how they justify asking the same as the turbo for it. intercooler
Ok, sound advice all. Thanks hoonz, arb were pretty confident when i went in the other day. What about intercoolers I'm deffinately going to save some coin from ebay, but the specs are pretty lacking. You said that safari is more choked for flow than some stuff on ebay what brands do you suggest and dimensions? Heaps of stuff for around 3 Hunge but will it be too restrictive/crap alloy? (havent got donor GQ yet - Easter - so no vehicle to suss out grill space)

The a/c is behind the radiator support panel uprights. So am guessing he is talking about between it and the grill.Jimbo wrote:Is that still keeping the air-conyou can put a 600x300x75 behind the grill without removing the horisontal bars!
Not sure if it would fit. I didn't think there was 75mm of room.
With the Ebay kits. They are just the cooler, generally. Where as the safari is a complete kit bolt in. Thats why they charge for it.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
I know it does, i have done it on 2 alreadyturps wrote:The a/c is behind the radiator support panel uprights. So am guessing he is talking about between it and the grill.Jimbo wrote:Is that still keeping the air-conyou can put a 600x300x75 behind the grill without removing the horisontal bars!

My bitch has boost, Nutter Engineering Turbo GQ
If its any help, i've recently been quoted $4500 by Ray at Turbo Engineering (includes before & after dyno sheets, high-flowed water cooled turbo, mandrel bent exhaust, replacement alloy air filter, fuel pump, injectors), with an extra option of a boost compensator (personally i reckon they're a MUST HAVE) for $885. No intercooler included, but can supply/fit air-air or water-air if you want.
JPC quoted me $4093 for a "turbo kit" including before and after dyno run sheets, although they didn't give any detail as to hat the "kit" included. I know two people that have had a kit put on a GQ ($10,000 worth), and a GU comp ute that got "tweaked" at JPC, and let me just say that both of them went like shit off a shovel. Beat any of the V8 falcadores around here hands down.
My only issues (why i havent done it yet) is cause i like the awesome fuel economy my N/A TD42 gets - and every person i know with TD42T or aftermarket systems always get hot under pressure (hills etc) - and that scares the crap out of me. No more $7500 repair bills on this car thanks.

haha what magical fix....azzad wrote:If someon knows or finds out can they let us know what this "fix" is
its just coolant bypass line into the cylinder head to reduce inlet temps...
do search its been discuess before...
however if you have the right air intake turbo and intercooler you shouldnt have overheating issues both with pyro and engine temps...
