I've had OME 5 spring medium duty 40mm spring packs and Gabriel hiace/lux shocks in the rear of my Sierra for 6 months now. The ride has been pretty harsh so last week I tried taking out the 2 overload leaves and added 40mm OME shocks suited to the springs (sacrificing some articulation in the shock length ) With this set up the ride was heaps better in the back but the springs looked like they were close to turning into a w. So I put the short overload (the one without the clamp) back in. Now its just about as harsh again. I've don't carry anu weight in the back, no seats no nothing.
My question is: Has anyone else successfully run 3 leaf medium duty OME packs without kinking them? I was thinking of maybe taking out the overload again and adding one of the softer springs from the stock spring packs. Any other suggestions?
As a side note for anyone out there thinking of getting the OME medium duties and shocks to match. The shocks are actually the limiting factor in droop. With the chassis on stands I have to compress the spring packs around an inch to fit the shocks.

I removed the 2 bottom load springs in the rears so i have now 3leafs either side. Made a big difference offroad and on road, bit softer on tha bum...I have ke70 Corrola rear shocks in front, 2wd hiluxs in rear, Cost me nuffin so y not
Most people tend to run 4 leaves in the rear and 3 in the front. I know it seems odd with the extra weight of the engine and all, but I think the shorter leaves in the front compensate with stiffness. I have heard of some going 3 leaves in the rear but not usually in daily drivers.
I don't think my springs are OME. I think they are Carrols Springs.
They are 2" lifted and I've removed the bottom two leaves.
Leaving 3 in the rear. Front is untouched and has 5 leaves.
It touches the bump stops now if I load it up enough which it wouldn't do before removal. I fitted 1.25" extended shackles (rear only) and it really makes a difference.
I haven't noticed any axle wrap issues, it rides about the same but flexes a lot better.
Hmmm. Maybe they weren't bending then. maybe the middle of the pack was just a bit out of shape from where its been flexing against the load springs for the last 6 months. I might give it a shot with only 3 springs again. If I kink them I'll know what not to do with the next set Thanks for the help guys.

OME are designed with a "flat" spot at the spring u bolt mount points, to prevent springs from pulling flat as you tighten up spring pads.
Maybe this is what you are looking at?

When I take the overload out again I'll take a pic and post it. I'd say that is what I am seeing. I'd noticed the flat spot in the front packs (also OME rears) but it was more noticeable on the rears with the overloads out. Thanks Christover.
