Widetrack/Narrowtrack?
Widetrack/Narrowtrack?
How do you tell, visibly between a 1.3L wt and nt??? Is it the wt has fiberglass flares and the nt has rubber? Always confused me this has...heck..does the 1.3L even come in nt after say 1986+?
Current Stockmans are Maruti's. They are made in India. I know they make a wide track Maruti but I'm not sure if they send them here.
As for the flares my 88 model has plastic. Most WT have metal flares. The 88 was a cross over hybrid. It still has the NT model number SJ50 where as other WT's are SJ70 and a coily is an SJ80. Then to add to the confusion the 1Litre is a SJ410 and the 1.3 NT is also a SJ413.

You'll find the there is no noticable difference in body shapes between the two. The flares are different. Some NT came with small rubber flares whilstthe WT had 2" ish wide metal (usually) flares.
NT springs are mounted under the frame whilst WT are mount outboard
Ransom note = demand + collage
Frame differences?
Okay... I did do a search but didn't find what I was looking for. But I know somebody will know the answer instantly.
Can I swap my wide track chassis for a narrow track 1.3L chassis? Would the drivetrain and body fit back on?
I'm thinking the answer is yes but I wanted clarification. Does anybody have leads on a decent, registerable (not written off), short wheel base chassis? I will buy it from you or trade you for my mint chassis after the conversion.

The body would - we just did that with mine - put a NT1.3 body onto a WT1.3 chassis - no worries...
only issues were different handbrake setup i think... and all the messy wiring that existed on the NT body (which was a bit older of course)...
Not sure about running gear though.

I thought about this a bit more NAM... wide track running gear and narrow track chassis would have to work okay because they only connect to each other at the following places:
1. springs - you would have to convert the chassis to widetrack, or the axels or narrow track
2. x-fer - the x-fer case mounts are interchangeable so no problems
3. steering box to axels- perhaps this is different - not sure - but you would need the steering components from the widetrack to make it work.
4. steering (steering wheel to box) - this is fine - worked on my setup.
5. brakes - assuming both are 1.3 (which they are) - no prob - this worked fine on my setup.
6. handbrake - have to decide which one to use - nt or wt.
should work no problems i reckon nam...

thanks for the break down greg
i think bigsteve has got something i can use too so it may not be a big deal afterall
springs mounts don't matter since going to links
steering box needs to be changed anyway... maybe an fj60 box???
everything else should all be workable
