I'm wanting to get rid of the ARB side steps and build a full underbelly skid plate as well as sliders (one unit).
has anyone done this and can show me pics? give me info on how it was made/fixed. how to overcome water and mud sitting in it.
what ideas would people have for my brush bars as i want to keep them. Bolt onto the sliders or weld on....would it be possible to remove the skid plate if they were welded on.
obviously want to limit the amount of clearance compromised.
cheers
PAUL

skid plate/slider GU ute
weld some tabs and nuts onto the gearbox crossmember
weld some more tabs (angle iron) onto the chassis where you want the lplates to sit too.
get some 4mm or 5mm gal plate and cut and drill to suit
bolt on and the crap mainly runs out as you leave space between chassis rails and front or back.
ive seen it done and was in the vehicle when it was draggin etc. and it was good. cant get any pics of it but ill have it done to mine after i get the new engine in if you dont want to do it right now.
PS, youll also have to beat the plate out to fit the bottom of the transfer in.

i'm sure i once saw on here a buildup of a GU comp ute that was white with light blue barwork. and he made something like im after. if anyone knows who im talkin bout, help would be great
PAUL
there used to be a post on here (pre crash era - ages ago) about a white GU comp ute that did exactly this. he had all the bar work painted bright blue maybe someone has got pics of this build up...
i'd suggest bolting the brush bars to the sliders that way if you ever needed to remove for servicing, panel damage or slider replacement it is only a single unit that needs to come out rather than one huge piece

GU 4.2 TD Garrett BB Hi-flow, M8274 + Bells & Whistles with plenty of fruit still on the list!

toughnut built it, rolled it at outback 2006 rebuilt it, painted it yellow cab orange and redid bar work and then sold it after 8 day. he sold it to starky (dont know if hes on here) who is still comping it in xtreme winch. last i saw of it not much had changed from when toughnut had it.
