Defected for tyres

Post by Rocky8 »

I got defected for my tyres being too big (the sidewall height or profile of them). They are 31x10.5x15 inch mud terrain tyres. My tyre placard says H78-15 or 215 SR 15. There doesnt seem to be any sidewall or profile height on the placard so are my tyres legal or not.

215R15 = 215/82R15

215R15 = 29x8.5x15 (approx)

So you're 2" taller, and 2" wider than a stock tyre (give or take a bit).

Wow.... and you're from Adelaide (the land of defectable rust buckets :) )

How did you end up getting pulled over? Every second 4WD in Adelaide has oversize tyres.

Every second 4WD in AUSTRALIA has oversize tyres :rofl:
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

Yes, but unlike some other states it's very hard to get engineering approval over here (I looked into it) so it's highly unlikely any SA ones are legal.

We don't have any vehicle inspections EVER so you'd have to be unlucky to get defected. Police just seem to turn a blind eye to obviously defectable vehicles from what I've observed. The only crackdowns they seem to have are on riced up Jap vehicles who cruise around the CBD at night.

Tyres were outside the guards so a motorcycle cop pulled me over and defected me for track and tyres....when i got my 4x4 inspected....they put another defect on for being 50mm too high...so now ive got to take out the suspension or body lift....

Tyres outside the guards - yes that's asking for it in Victoria too.

Mudflaps too short are another favorite.

Just put it back to stock - clear the defects and then ........

And as for engineering approval...... I was implying that half of Vic's 4WD's are not engineered for the tyre sizes being run. :oops:

Tyres hanging out - that explains it. You were still unlucky (or else they're really hanging out a long way?)
