Help Wiring a turbo Timer

Hi All,
I bought a second hand Turbo Timer which has a fairly simple wiring diagram on the timer side:
Red: positive
Black: negative
Yellow: ignition
Blue: accessories

I have a BJ74 Cruiser and had a look in the ignition switch and there are the same four colours coming out of the switch/tumbler.
My question is: can I rely on these colours being the same colour coding system as my timer? If if join black to black etc, will it be correct?
As you can see, I am not electrically minded and couldn't use a multimeter to save myself!

the easiest way i found is as follows but you need a multi metre

1.. positive and negative explains intself + to the battery ( or find a cable with constant power) and negaitive is earth so earth anywhere on the chasis.

2. accesories you can find in the bunch of cables in the ignition area, turn on your multimetre and test any cable with the ignition on , once you find one with power then turn your ignition off and if its an accesory cable then it should turn off (as in read no volts) if not then thats a positive so pick another till tyou find one that does and thats accessories

3. usaually there are only 5 or so cables so once the first 3 are correct then tha last cable is the ignition, that usually goes on the fattest one. but i just connect it anyone and see if that works if not then pick another one.there should only be 3 or so left to choose from so it should take too long . you cant do any damage the turbo timer wont work if the ignition is wrong. trial and error on the last i found.

i would try just matchin the colors first then if that doesnt work the have a go at my way , worst case scenario it wont work

This is just an example for Hilux owners, so it may not apply in this situation;

It never ceases to amaze me why people never ask for the full kit when they buy a second-hand turbo timer. They always leave this bit behind. It is the adapter that plugs into the timer unit that goes in the ignition switch harness. Go back and get it.



This image is from a Hilux I bought, no turbo timer, so someone out there needed info to install the one they got from this car!

Anyway, the wire that goes to your "ignition" circuit is basically obvious, it will be the + output that is connected to the ignition "on" wire to keep the engine running. The "accessory" wire is the +, same as you would connect to the car radio, not the always available + battery wire, but it's the same as the wire for radio to turn on when the key is on. The "positive" will go direct to your battery, +, like you car radio memory wire that is always energised, via a fuse near the battery. The "negative" can go to the chassis or body.
