im based on the sunshine coast, qld, and just started a 12a rotary converson in an 87 sierra, have got to reseal the motor, but getting the conversion out of the way first. currently setting up my engine mounts, have oxyed the drivers chassis bracket off and setting up the crossmember attatchment. will keep everyone posted on off road capability, also pics available after ive completed it.

I would really like to do something similar myself .. was looking at a swap like this using either a Zuk T/case and a C4 auto or a hilux box and transfer case ..
What gearbox are you using .. what other mods have you done/have planned ??

running a rx4 4speed, stronger gearset, was hoping box might be slightly shorter then 5sp but jack all difference. keeping porting minimal just running standard, cept recessing my bearings to prevent spinning at high revs. the sierra aint crazy, cig rear centre, 2.5in kingies, exdtend shackles,31 bf muds.still spu, but might go to hilux, not for a little while though. is about all, also making a front bar at moment, jsut to accomodate a winch.

This guy was looking at a rotary but ended up with a Mitsu motor .. still some good pics etc in there .. I know of another with a 12a in it, will take a look and see if I can find the site.. he used the mazda engine and box ..

i looked at the auto, but no way its to fit in shorty, i saw a site on the net where some guy monstered the tunnel to fit it in, ended up being an abortion. it will sit extremely far forward, looking at a rear mounted radiator with twin thermos, if not. the only other problem is overall length. solved by moving back transfer, or just dealing with the vibration.

Options....
1) use another Gearbox with integral transfer case (eg Landrover) and custom made adaptor plate. Vitara one would be no good due to gearing issues.
2) Wonder if the Mazda B Series and Asia/Kia Gearboxes fit either immediately or with a swapped bellhousing - after all these ARE Mazda engines nad Gearboxes....
3) Or doing it with a vitara or LWB
4) or Moving the rear axle back 4" or so...
You have options..... If you have money + options you end up with possibilities
