Rangie outta town

Post by -Mick- »

Hey All :D I've found a rangie of interest to me but it's in NSW and I'm in Brisbane.

1984 4 door
Dual Fuel
5lt holden/ turbo 400
Detroit locker
Air, Steer, cruise, power tinted windows, c/locks
Elec ignition
Bullbar

This is as the ad reads, I will find out more about it tonight. He's askin $6900, do you lads reckon it's worthehile :?:

Now the big question........ Is anyone willing to go and look it over for me :D

You should find out what transfer its got in it. If is got an LT230 then it would be a really good drivetrain but it could have anything in it.

It's in northern NSW so my mates and I are goin road trippin next week :D Where should I look to find out what transfer is in it? The guy knows very little about it, all the work was done before he got it.

I can do a decent mechanical lookover/ compression test myself but what else should I look out for :?:

It's a nice rig and I'm pretty keen on it :D But I reckon 6900 is a bit steep :?

The 308 is sweet, runs good/ good order etc but the gearbox is no turbo 400, it's the std rangie touqueflite. That's still ok though, just not as good as what the ad said.

The detroit locker behaved itself and the dual fuel runs the tank in back and flashlube system to run gas all the time. it goes well on gas too.

The interior is pretty schmick but the body is somewhere between fair and good. The paint looks WAY better in the pics than in person, it's oxidised on the bonnet and average most of the way round.

That bullbar is Grimace too but the rig also has dual batteries.

What do you guys reckon I should offer him :?:

I think I would offer 4000 broken up into this order;

$1500 for 5L donk and adaptor
$1500 for Range Rover Chassis and all running gear
$500 for the long range tanks and duel baterrys
$400 for the gas conversion
$450 for the bullbar and all other accesories

TOTAL $4350

Minus $350 for the shitty oxidised bonnet and UGLY COLOUR :D

But all in all I LIKE IT.........GOOD CHOICE OF VEHICLE....
Was that a good enough response for you :D ;)

Offered him 5500 and he declined :? 4000 Grimace, you're a cheap skate

Might try 6000 tomorrow, might not  What do people reckon? Offer 6000 or forget it?

I haven't exactly been overwhelmed with opinions thus far

The problem is not that they don't know the value of the car, they're quite clear on that one. The problem is they think all the mods are still worth what you would nearly pay for them new

I think 6000 is more than I would have wished to pay in the first place but would still save me $ in modifying along the way.

BUT I will not pay more than 6k for a car with average (and UGLY ASS) paint :? I'll sit on it for a few days I spose :)

QUOTING ON WHAT I SAID EARLIER...............

Take this list to them and say, I give you $4500 right now, followed by 'thats a gain of $500 in your pocket for what the cars worth' then say have a think about it dude and leave

If he ever rings you back and says 'I will accept you original offer of $5500 then its a deal (if he was a good salesman he would ring you) if he doesnt then, dont worry there shit loads more around at good bargain prices :P Good luck and make sure you post lots of pics when you get your new RR.

G'day,

Keep an eye out for bargins....I'm getting a 1984 4dr on LPG, reco gearbox 50k ago, rebuilt powersteering, great air con, elec ignition and bullbar for $2500 (standard drive train).

Do you think 308, Auto and locker, crusie control, tint windows and C/locking is worth $3500 onto ??

Your choice, but I perfer to start from stock and Build it MY Way, not buy one done by someone else. You never know what needs doing till you drive a 4by stock and see it's limits from your point of view.

Each to their own, but thats just my opinion

Good point mate but the reason I was chasing that one and not really any others is because they are the same mods I would be doin to it. I'm NOT payin more than 5500 though.

I'm just gonna let this one pass and be patient, don't spose theres two of the one you're buying  Sounds like a steal, where's the pics :?:

i would not touch it...
the motor in my opinion is a little heavy for a rangie... the alloy v8 is sooo much lighter. a 4.4 P76 motor is a cheap conversion...
for 6000 you could build a better truck... SIR - step away from the vehicle :D :D
