NT and WT diffs

Post by PJ.zook »

Just a quickie, are any of the parts interchangable from NT to WT diffs in a sierra? Im asking as i have a whole spare drivetrain sitting at work which i need to sell, and just wondering if i should strip diffs and keep centres, CV's, etc...

Centres, brakes, swivel hubs and Cv's are all same but axles are different lengths.
NT are 3.9:1 and WT are 3.7:1

yes sell them now , if your driving practices havent broken anything yet , you will probably only encounter general wear , eg bearings etc

CV's are only $50 each from Ebay.
BUT......
Usually if a CV breaks it will damage the spline on the axle.
BUT.....
NT stuff is common as dogsh1t and just as cheap.
If you don't need the cash right now and you have the room to store them they might be worth hanging onto.
Suzuki boy had a bit of trouble finding rear NT axles recently.

put the 3.9 centres in your WT. it'll give you slightly lower gearing all round...I dunno if you have tranny gears but i went from 3.7 to 4.57 yukon diff gears on a change from 31s to 34s and its made a world of difference to highway driving and slightly lower offroad as well...

pjs got series 4 gears. and peej, i would keep the diffs at least, then you have spares centres., keep brake parts aswell. axels keep then you can send to me if i break any. actually i have a mate that needs a nt rear axel for his LWB.

How do people store diffs or any other part that can rust? Would something as simple as soaking a large rag in oil, wrap diff in it, then shove it all in a strong plastic bag?

That will work but I'd put the lot in a plastic bucket with an airtight lid. Easier to store and no mess.
Smear grease on the gear teeth first.
