Moving car from QLD to NSW - what do i need to know

Post by fervit »

I'm thinking about bringing a car from QLD to NSW, what to i need to do? I don't really have any idea how the QLD system works, except that you need to get a RWC for the car?

Get the RWC, go to office, give details of trip and pay for unregistered permit.

If you intend to drive unregistered to place of inspection, then insurance must be paid for before you leave private property.

i just went through this on the weekend... i didnt have to have a roadworthy. i rang the dot and all they wanted was for me to fill in a "unregistered vehicle permit" form, pay aami or some other insurance mob aprox. $65 for a days insurance, i think it goes up about $10 a day after that, then go to dot pay them $20 - its actually 19 something, i just dont recall - and go on your merry way..... one of the questions on the form is " is the vehicle roadworthy?" with a yes - no answer.... i rang dot and queried this and was told as long as there is no large cracks in the windscreen it has seatbelts, roadworthy tyres and all lights work there should be no probs...

checkout www.transport.qld.gov.au and download the form from there...

if i remember correctly, you need "class 22 CTP insurance and the form from dot is form 3523

hope this helps

If its still got rego, buy it, if you want full insurence do that before you drive home, it will have ctp insurence on it already, drive home hand in plates then re rego in nsw.

I will admit I did it from NSW to QLD and I did need a Pink Slip in NSW to get it. I thought things would be the same QLD to where-ever, but obviously not.

Go for it, just get the insurance paid first!

yeah, starting in nsw you do need a pink. i tried rta, but they put me onto qld dot because the vehicle was from there. they also said that a qld permit covers you in nsw anyway...
