G16b swift motor to Sierra
G16b swift motor to Sierra
Still early days in the conversion, motor is in pieces,block and crank are off being machined.
Need to know what therostat housing you need to clear the firewall, magna,? tried a 2.6 one at repco, is only 45 degree angle ,is that the right one.
Also done a lot of study of wiring diagrams and sensors and how they work. For optimum engine performance and DPI legality do I need to use all the sensors. Ones Im not sure of are VSS, ATS, Engine check cct
Lastly will I need a BL for mtr to clear bonnet, the motor is single point injection, and the vehicle is a WT sierra
And yes Im enjoying doing the conversion.

single point u'll get away with out bl but mpfi u will need one.

The car will often light the check engine light if you don't wire the VSS, (my VERY basic EFI on the 660 does) and the VSS also controls fuel cut on coast/idle. The VSS is easy to do if you swap the speedo unit for a vitara one.
The check engine light is absolutely vital. It will allow you to jump the diag plug and do diagnostics. I have seen lots of conversion cars with no check engine light and can't imagine why you wouldn't wire it in - it's even in your stock sierra dash.

Likely to be a "non standard" abbreviation for IAT ?
As a guess ATS ( Air Temperature Sensor ) = IAT ( Intake Air Temp )
Some manufacturers seem to take great delight at creating their own abbreviations - probably just to piss the Germans off

oh no, if it was German it would be SKFDEDODMEAPFROD SAS DFFPS, unless you ahd the 000.3432.23423.565 update, in which case you'll have to contact the factory and get a code to unlock the diagnostics for the acronym

i used a housing off a 1.3 carby barina (swift but i bought the part through holden) bout an 85 86. it was a 90deg and the bolt holes were also at 90 deg not 45ish like most of the sooks. ran fairly close to the dizzy cap and the i ran a pipe through the inlet manifold to the front. the housing has provision for the temp sensor in the barina/swift so you will need to buy a plug . piccy not mine but the same as what i did. and the body lift is determined buy your dizzy. if you box the fire wall you can't have a bl or you'll loose the heater core

excellent info, the 86 barina /swift one will suit my appliaation best . just waiting on a modified disty to arrive and the block to come back next week and then the fun starts, Be interesting to see how my TBI goes against nicbeers MPI .

as for a VSS, they're in all sorts of suzukis- I grabbed one from an ancient swift (1980's) it was a base model with no tach. According to my source, it was even a carby. Suzuki might have used the VSS to switch EGR, but in any case, the signal it produces matches that required by even a 2000 Baleno, so in it went.
With the cluster face down, if there are two philips head screws about 1" apart, vertically aligned to the lower right of the speedo drive, it has a VSS.
