I read on the US forum about the Gen 2.5

what exactly is the Gen 2.5, as I know of only Gen 1, 2, 3


is it somewhere in between,?? or is it when Mitsu changed to the 3.5l sohc??

does anyone know

G'day Ian, they are refering to when the SOHC 3.5 V6 was introduced.
This is our NL model with the bulbous front guards.
It just confuses the issue IMHO to me it's still a Gen 2 as the running gear is all the same in 3.5 V6 models except there is DOHC and SOHC versions.

do you reckon the 3.5lsohc would be a direct bolt in replacement for the dohc (or vice versa)

would the engine ecu's be the same???

Don't mean to be anal but in the States the 3.5 SOHC was introduced in '97 & the Gen 2.5 flat fender was introduced in '98. Gen 2.5 designates the body style & not the engine change. I actually like the look of the Gen 2.5 more now. Hope this helps.
