How can i get 200rwkw out of my GU td42t
i think if you want that sort of power you really should put a V8 deisel twin turbo as you can bring them in from states almost as cheap as doing a rebuild cam and a lot of machining to make the 4.2 make and handle the boost you would have to push into it to make that 200 mark at the wheels.....But all in all it would be fair nice to see it happen

yeah and custom engines cost a lot more then a lot of people think as i payed $15,000 for a 500kw asperated 383 stroker that can handle a 300hp shot of nitros ontop think you would maybe looking at that sort of figure as the deisel cost a bit more for machining and parts then the humble 308..........but if you have the money why not

yup, andy did my truck, does good work too. It can be done, but if you want reliabilty and no overheating issues, thats where the cost comes into play.
I have one dyno graph here of 200rwkw, in fact its the highest one I have ever seen anywhere. It had a lot of smoke down low though.

I just sold my 80 series and have decided to go the diesel way in my GU, which was a 2.8 I got cheap. I'm building a td42 that will be capable of 180-200-rwk on short bursts. This is acheived with an aneriod that I can switch to allow more or less fuel from in the car. Nomally driven to 150rwkw
I personally wouldnt attempt this on a stock engine. I want a reliable cruiser with a shot of big power when needed, I need fast spooling and minimal smoke for everyday driving with reliability for outback touring.
Modified manifolds, and alike reduce the effort on the turbo, its better to make 200 rwkw at 25 psi with efficient manifold design than 200 rwkw at 35 psi boost due to restrictions in factory manifold design that require additional boost to flow the same volumes of air required.
My mods will include

My design camshaft, about 10 degrees more duration and .050 more valve lift. Regrind and lifters $200
Custom extractor style exhaust manifold. $1000 steam pipe $2400 316 stainless
Custom plenum inlet manifold (can't get enough air through the stock log design. materials for me $200, built with labour $700
Custom roller turbo, one of our own combinations for both reliability and radid spool speeds. $2400
Valve springs. $200
Engine kit $1800
Pump and injectors $4500-6000 depending on pump
Head reco, pre comps, valve seats, guides. $1200
Dissasemble $300
Reasemble $1000, to install injectors, pump etc

Well Joel, you beat me to the punch. I was going to just say it will be between 18-25 k ish to do it. Looks like it will be if you include labour costs, but a good summary of costs.
A few things I would add would be to hpc coat the turbine housing and dump pipe. Better conrods and small ends ( Ive broken one rod already in my pursuit of this). A good supply system for the inj pump. Then clutch and driveline parts. The list can go on just fixing the weakest link each time.
What sort of i/c do you plan to use?

I'm going to try an ebay cooler, my LS1 makes 325 rwkw and the inlet temps are only 3-7 degrees above ambient with one, I mod them so they X flow.
I'm not so keen on HPC on the turbine as on petrol turbos (hotter) it can cause the carbon to leach out of the housing, cracks and scale appear. Probably a good idea on the diesel being that EGTs are 100-200 degrees cooler on diesel.

Gets dearer everytime you think about it if you want it right dosent it.

it costs a customer 14000 inc labour to drive in a standard td42 and drive out with 200rwkw with no internal motor work( all bolt on). i know of a couple of these engines still going with no problems at all after 2 years.now pgs says it going to cost( him) 25000 to build a preformance engine. the diferrence is 11000 plus labour. when your std motor lets go you pull off all your bolt on bits and bolt them to another motor.a std engine cost 3500 secondhand. that means you can go through 3 engines before your up to the price of a modded engine. now a modded engine doesn't last forever definetly not as long as 3 stds. just my opinion as the td42 is one of the most bullet proof motors i have seen.

So what is the advantage of the diesel in a comp truck, and i don't want to hear the BS about being able to be driven in water, as any idiot with half a brain and some electrical and mechanical know how can waterproof an engine!! $20k for a top end comp engine, requires a decent drivetrain, either of those chevs would spit that nissan box out!! so surely all these SUPER td42 must be using a special GU box made of unobtanium!!

I'm not going to question the worth of a TD42 but if you want 200rwkw why stay with a TD? Is it a point of making 200 or is there something I don't understand. 200rwkw is very easily and cheaply acheived with a lot of other motors. The obvious is TB45. For a lot less than the money eing talked about above I have a lot more and it is lighter etc etc.
