Hilux 2L Injector Pump

Post by kanookie »

What would the symptoms of injector pump failure?
My hilux wont start now the other day was driving along it started revving really high close to 3500rpm and it was like the throttle cable was stuck but it wasnt and heaps of smoke started pouring out it was white sorda smoke..Turned the ignition off it still wouldnt stop and kept revving around 3500 pulled over and it was still going for about 20seconds then just stoped..started it again and it ran fine got it home and went to start it the next day and just wouldnt start and the glow seems to glow wierd like the plugs are already hot..checked the timing all is ok..got it towed to toyota they did a compression test said it has low compression and think it may be the injector pump are they right?

Edit: also it has been a lil harder to start in the mornings

Any info would be great thanks..

cheers
kanookie.

is it leaking externally ?? if not it will be leaking internally in turn over fueling your car also sucking in air . Sounds to me like it is filling the sump with diesel that is mixing with your oil. In short i would almost guarantee your pump needs repair but most likely rebuilding.
You should not drive it as it may destroy your engine.

Check your oil level. If the oil level is to high as in diesel in the oil it will hydraulic itsself and rev its tits of until you stall it or blow itself apart. It is not much fun I will tell you I didn't think a 2L Diesel would rev that high. ( Well over 6500Rpm  )

Sounds like you have an engine condition problem and its running on blowby gasses. If a pump leaks on a 2L it wont go into the sump, its a belt driven engine.

get a compression test done by someone who knows diesels.

Are you sure the throttle cable is ok. sometimes the rubber grommet on the end of the cable, at the top part of the throttle assy before it reaches the pump, can come off, and jam the cable.

Remove the lower link from the throttle cable ass to the pump, and with someone in the car going from little to full throttle and back, apply some resistance to the assy, so see if you have a wear spot in the cable that could be intermittantly sticking.
Is the hand throttle assy under the dash doing the right thing ? is it fouling anywhere??

What were the comp figures??

Re it not glowing, that could be a timing relay issue, and poor start problems, not the pump.

When was the timing belt done, when was the last oil change, when was the last fuel filter change etc??

With the fuel pump disconnected from the throttle assy, move it by hand, does it feel smooth, or is it notchy??

Sounds like there could be more than one problem here, and a step by step should nail it down.
Let us know.
