Reverse lights not working -- bulbs and fuses okay?

Post by Brendan-s »

My reverse lights haven't been working for a couple of weeks, but as I hadn't been driving the Sierra for a while I only got around to looking at it today. Both bulbs were okay, but I replaced them anyway. The contacts inside where the bulb sits were dirty so I gave em a bit of a scrape and clean, yet when I replaced them neither worked when reverse was selected. All other lights work, but I checked all the fuses anyway (I've lost the fuse box cover that tells you what fuse is what so I checked them all).

So I'm guessing that there is a wire come loose somewhere, but the question is where do I look? Just remembered about the three wires that come off the top of the gearbox but cause it's dark and I'm lazy I CBF checking them until tomorrow.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, next step would be the switch on the gearbox. Not sure where it is on the box but i'm sure someone will jump in shortly and tell you all about fixing one in the mud on the track in the back of beyond. ;)

You have diagnosed your own problem , check the switch on the gearbox , unplug it and use a meter to check continuity , it should be the one with a yellow wire and a red wire in the plug , Cheers Paul.
