Front #Wheel Bearing replacements

Post by ompong1 »

Hi, new to the forum, I have an NM pajero 2001 model ,and I am going to replace the front wheel bearings ( a bit of play on both already, ) . I heard it was a one whole assembly ,how true is that. and can anybody have procedures on how to do it.I've done wheel bearing replacements from my previous cars but I think this one is different. Any help is appreciated. By chance anyone know if I can buy them aftermarket?
how much.
thanks a lot.

I believe the bearing is built into the hub, and can't be replaced separately.

I don't know if there's an aftermarket version with replaceable bearings?

Recently helped a neighbour change one on his. They are only available as a hub unit. MMAL sell them for between $380 and $450 depending on their mood and how much they like you. I understand that there may now be an aftermarket hub available.

It was fairly quick and easy to strip down to the hub, but getting the hub to come free after 150,000km took a hell of a lot of persuasion.

Note that the freeplay tolerance in these bearings is 0. If you have any play swap them out as my experience is (did two on my NM) when they fail they will go very quickly.

Price is for one, try one of the specialist bearing shops for an aftermarket, no special tools as such except for a big hammer to try and free the hub from the knuckle, we undid the top ball joint in order to be able to get at the bolts on the hub without completely removing the half-shaft.

Hi all, thanks to all your replies I did managed to replaced my front wheel bearings, have a bit of struggle but it went okay took me approx 2 hrs. each so not bad at all. the cost? 250.00 each aftermarket, trade ,brand GSP same mob that does some Japs 4x4 like Honda Mazda Mitsu etc.(according to supplier)
The old bearing was very dry just about to fall in to pieces, lucky have it changed.considering it was 146.000 kms done.
thanks again now I have to deal with my manifold (looks like it is cracked?)
