UHF Mounting Suggestions
Gday Guys
I am looking at getting a Icom 400Pro this afternoon. Just curious about mounting options.
Can I mount it sideways safely? The only spot that is 'easy' for me to install it is in the dash, there is a spot but it would have to go sideways. Otherwise I can look at roof mounting it. But I don't have a console (nor want to buy one) for the roof.
It's a 94 Vitara LWB.
If anyone has a Vit, where did you mount yours? Near the CD etc is not an option for me.
Cheers
Chris

A speed camera would have prevented that!

I have one on my GQ and they look very good. Very easy to read and operate the radio. Bit pricey but they do compliment your vehicle and easy to remove.

I am the Nightrider! I am the chosen one. The mighty hand of vengeance, sent down to strike the unroadworthy!
This way when you flood the car you have smelly carpet and no radio.eXc wrote:bought the 400pro yesterday should be installed tonight if i get time (hey...I don't have a valentine! haha)
It says not to mount it in direct sunlight...i was going to mount it on the dash....so I should not do that? I guess I need another location. Transmission tunnel looks like the only option
Well I'm guessing that they didn't think everyone would carry on like a big bunch of sooky girls over it like they have........
Well, I got it 99% mounted this afternoon.
Decided to put it under the steering wheel. I will see how it goes tommorow driving if it annoys me too much. It was fine until I put the cables in, the coax wasn't as flexable as I had hoped, so testing to see if it gets in the way, but if not that should do.
The Z bracket I got doesn't fit the Vitara, so I had to make a mount up, so it's currenly hanging in the garage waiting for paint to dry. I ended up testing the radio, i got about 15kms out of it with the aerial pointed horizontally (cause I didn't have the mount!). The person that responded was in the opposite direction it was pointing...
So I am happy with that range, sure beats the 0.7w handhelds I been borrowing from work!
I'll get a photo once I know I'm happy with it
