Intercooling tips

Post by Maddog »

I am considering intercooling my 2Lt Toy moter.

I understand they run hot and thought it would be a good insurance to do this...

I was thinking of picking up a medium sized intercooler from a jap wrecker.

Any tips on mounting positions. I was thinking of putting it on so it faced upwards and use a small scoop to direct air in.....

Anytips would be good.

A thank u.....

is it turbo???
air to air works best when air is moving through the intercooler
ie- when the vehicle is moving 20-30kph or the air is moving 20-30kph(fan)
zoom has a great article on water to air intercoolers in a xr6 turbo.
makes great sense in a 4wd.
when you're rock crawling there is probably not enough air movement through the intercooler for it to be efficient. it will still work (i have seen it firsthand)but i believe the water to air cooler to be superior in this instance because the efficiency is great even when not moving.
i have seen a water to air intercooler made from a series 4/5 rx7 intercooler enclosed in aluminium shell. they flow quite well stock, and the shape would suit the water to air application.

I know about intercoolers and was planning on using either a EJ20T water to air or a 2nd hand jap import one.

I was just curios about mounting positions and I dont want an air to air to get filled with mud.....
