So in essence, to get a reasonble strength hi-pinion the nissan center is used in the 80 housing. With the advantages being the better axles/cv's, locking hubs/flanges and the actual housing strength!! As someone who has a GQ,GU,and heaps of toyota stuff laying around to measure, i have noticed the incredible size difference in the 'neck' of the swivel hub toyotas are 5mm larger in diameter and 'shorter' which gives a massive strength advantage!!


so in other words an 80 housing with the nissan center plus longs would be a HUGE upgrade for nissans!!! as it gives better strength and turning circle as well as better diff geometry!! (less chance of the nasty nissan WOBBLE due to the decrease in sensitivity to kingpin inclination and castor!!)

so where does the nissan centre into 80 housing idea leave you for gearing options? would you be able to use the nissan 4.3 and 4.5 gears ?( i'm not sure of the exact ratios), and then put an after market equivalent geared R and P in the rear?

the only drama is the radius arms and steering are MEGA different, as I am looking to do this at the moment, and you kinda need to go back to a bare housing for the front radius arms (run the 80 series ones) and have custom steering made up!

The 80 series radius arm design is far superior to the nissan too :oops:

better casting, more flex from eye push instead of pin bush, and much stronger!
hands and mums dont count!!!

In the Ratio of 4.1-4.11:1 front Nissand and rear Toyota centre works other than that ratio you need to fit the matching Nissan centre in the rear axle. Popular factory Nissan ratio's being 4.375:1 and 4.625:1 . I dont what other ratio's match up wirh Nissan front and Toyota rear but i built up one front diff with 4.875 aftermarket gears and he fitted the same ratio in aftermarket Toyota diff gears in the rear :!: :!:

The Nissan centre phyically does not fit into the front 80 housing and new housing is fabricated using all the parts from the 80 housing ie brackets, swivel balls, spring hats etc to make this combination work.

I have seen this done in the US but smaller in the front instead to match ratios. And this was a rig built this way not just a quick fix.

When i first changed from 4.1:1 ratio diff gears i fitted 4.3:1 nissan front ( actual 4.375:1 ) and 100 series rear ( actual 4.300:1 ) and was a know go. In slippery conditions or under power it was fine but when coasting on a gravel road of firm surface in 4WD the front diff would growl its head of as the rear was a higher ratio hence traveling faster for the same RPM as the front. The crown wheel would drive the pinion thou the drive was locked in 4WD and run on the unloaded side of the gear and not like it. When driving up hard rutty uneven terrain the the wind up in the drive would build up and eventully load up so much that one wheel would give loaded spin to unload the drive and this hammering could not be good for the drive line so i soon fitted the matching 4.375:1 nissan rear diff centre into the 100 series rear axle/housing. Matching ratio's is very important.

I do front radius arms to fit a GQ/GU diff under the front of a 80 /79/100 series
Johnny track about had a set in his truck and Fester is putting a set in his new truck this will make the front end change over easrier.
