What G'box to SR20??

Post by 1MadEngineer »

Hey guys,
i am in desperate need of info!! I am building a new winch challenge truck, and i want to fit a sr20det motor. What i need to know is what bits or model#'s do i need to mate it to a nissan g'box and transfer?? I know there is a difference between the 3.0l and the 4.2l boxes, but i would love to use the one from a 4.2 petrol.

good luck i'd be surprised if anyone has that....your talking about bolting a pulsar/180sx/200sx motor to a truck gearbox (4.2), the RB30 box has same bolt patterns as the skylines and commodres but still don't think the kit is out there.

Call the usual engine conversion guys (marks, castlemain etc)....i have to ask though why would you want a 2lt turbo to go into what im guessing is a GQ?

greg it will have to be a custom bellhousing as when peope change their SRs to RBs they always use the "stronger" skyline box. but ask on the rice forums as always there is someone who has done it.

there are a few people puting our rather large horsepower figures with an RB30 in patrols and even VLs without much hastle so if you can find one and an adaptor maybe the 30 gearbox would be better.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

mate i'm pretty sure if you bolt up an sr box or skyline box you'll most likely be blowing gears constantly, they aren't that very strong, if you can keep the patrol box it would be better

Hey,

Use RB25 gearbox - similar to RB30 on patrols, but slighty bigger and stronger input shaft and can be modifed slighty to fit the bellhousing (transfer case might bolt on to the 25 gearbox but don't quote it on me).

For more information check out www.nissansilvia.com heaps of SR20 owners using RB25 gearbox, do a search there, loads of information there.

Most likely 4.2 g/b won't line up to SR20 motor.

Cheers
Should I get another 4wd?

yep second that the r33gts-t (rb25) gear boxs are pritty strong, not sure how long they are but there stronger then the sr20 ca18 and rb20's. should be good in a zook

some navara or pathy box's will bolt to a sr20 bell housing

personally id use a 3sgte to a r series surf box tho as the box is stronger than the nissan box and the 3sgte has better torque spread
