Hilux questions - Which Rubber?

Post by rodw »

Hi Guys, I got a question but I thought i'd introduce myself first as I have been on Outers but on the Zook side. However that will change on account of a steering failure on the Cunningham Highway last weekend that speared me head first into the largest gum tree this side of Warwick, followed by a landing on the lid! The result was not pretty.. but hey, I',m alive!

So anyway, a bit wary of second hand cars now so put my money down on a new Toyota Hilux SR Dual Cab Diesel Auto which I should have delivery of in a week or so. Went down to Fourby's today and they have a set of SR5 15x7 rims put aside for me. Everything will stay stock until I get a payout from insurance but my main question is:

What rubber should I put on the 15" Rims. Was thinking 31" BFG's. Any thoughts or alternatives?

Now my other questions are:

Plan is to add front and rear bars and a canopy (from ARB unless people have got better ideas) when I get an insurance settlement. What is the best way to go with a lift on the latest Hilux?

PS and thanks to those nice people in their Hilux who disconnected my battery when I was on my lid. They were on their way up to the Janowen Tough Tracks comp (which was where I was headed). I think they were the recovery team for the weekend, not sure but thanks anyway!

Nice to hear you survived your ordeal ;)

Rubber comes down to what you want:

Good grip or long lasting :?:
Cheap or don't care :?:
A/T or H/T or M/T :?:

If you do want some 31" M/T BFGs i have a set that i don't want and they are 99% new used 3 or 4 times. PM me if your interested.

I personally went cheap A/T for everyday and just adjust my driving style in the wet as there is crap all traction.......turbo doesn't help either

I run 33" Maxxis 751 Bravo Radials
BIG THANKS TO RYNO FOR MINE TOO
Kind Regards,
Brad

Luxy, I'm interested, You are the right side of town. PM me a price. I know what you mean, RYNO conned me into a set of Swampers on Mickey Tompson rims which were awesome. Shame they were the ones on the vehicle.....

I drive about 50km a day on busy roads, but hell, if I forgot to take the Swampers off, it went OK, so M/T's would be OK
