My version of a top mount TD42 intercooler.

Bogged is going to be very jealous of this one. :D :D :D :D

We have been building this one for a while, it's an extended length custom core using the original endtanks apart from cutting off the relatively small tubing on the intake end and replacing it with 2.5" 64mm tubing.
Finally got to fit it today, the rear sits in the original position and all the original piping bolts up as they normally do. The front mounts are custom as I had to cut the original bracket to allow the inlet tube to pass through the the mounting bracket that runs from the firewall to the radiator support panel.
Piping from turbo to intercooler is obviously custom and expands quickly up to 2.5" 64mm right at the turbo outlet.
There is room to access both oil filler cap and power steering reservoir cap without any difficulty.
The customer will try it out both on the road and dyno's and do some back to back comparisons with the standard intercooler which can be refitted at any time within about 10-15 minutes.
Once we have some usable data we will look at either converting it to water to air or build a new water to air intercooler in the same configuration.

Oh, and when we build the water to air one we'll change the factory plumbing from the intercooler to the inlet manifold because it now looks like cr@p.

How much has the internal volume changed? I would have thought that "bigger isn't always better" with things like that because of the time required to get the larger volume up to pressure, especially with the extra "dead" volume in the middle of the tank. Not being critical, just trying to learn a bit more.....

I'd be interested to see std run and then this one...
I'd also like to see with snorkel head on and without as Ive heard of the differences.

Well if my the I'm gayer than aids! working on my truck that were going to take 2-3 weeks, hadnt taken 3+ months so far, It would have been fitted yonks ago...

Not as yet, it was getting late in the afternoon and we all just wanted to go home and veg out for a while.
The interesting one for me is when we do a water to air one of similar sizing, I think it should work well particularly in slow speed work.

looks great, I had one made prior to having a TIG for Henry DOOOHH, that is now on Steve from on4toyou's car, wasn't as pretty as that though.

I would have thought that was more of an an issue on smaller capacity motor's with relatively small "gas output's" .. not so much of an issue on a vehicle that can genuinely use a 3 inch exhaust.

Dude here at work is making a water to air, but has a control unit that runs a spray jet like windscreen sprayer.. Basically, this control unit connects to a temp sender on the ICooler, and when it gets to a certain temp, it sprays until it cools enough.. this can be a matter of seconds.

New Intelligent Intercooler Water Spray Controller it also tells you when the water tank is gettin empty.

This may save some work..

Aren't these systems used to cool air-to-air intercoolers?
Or are they using it to cool the radiator in a water-to-air setup?

Subaru have been using it for years on thier top mounts and it seems to work well.

I think you could use it on either, but air - air is what I was thinking about. Would save a bit of money buiding a water - air...

John who has it fitted works on oil rigs, and aint back yet :( Emailed him few days ago.
