To Rebulid a 1FZFE ???

Post by guzzla »

The old girl (96 mod 80s) had 211k on the clock and im again looking at turboing it. My delima is weather I should have the engine rebuilt now along with dish top pistons and slightly lower comp and do it properly the first time or get the all clear with a leak down tests and go for broke. Im not looking at running massive boost - no more than 10psi just to be on the safe side.

If i rebuild it first I wont be putting the turbo on ASAP (maybe 6 months later) as my current funds will only allow for the rebuild or putting the turbo str8 on.

Everyone I know who has turboed a 1FZFE has just put it str8 on without incident and those that have had trouble has been via not keeping an eye on lean out.

Also if I was to have it rebuilt is it going to make muck difference in over all drivability running slightly lower comp etc.

Id bee keen to hear from people who have first hand experience with this or similar situation.

Regards,
Nathan

I'd just bang the turbo on. Tune it correctly and you shouldn't have an issue.

I personally wouldn't worry about it but I would recommened getting your valve clearences checked and adjusted if you havn't already in the last 40,000kms or so.
