Re: painting crome rims black
I only have one experience with this topic - a mate used to own a sandblasting and industrial coatings business... We lightly blasted the chrome wheels on his work ute then used a zinc undercoat with high build epoxy top coat... After one trip to Robe, the sand had pretty much destroyed the hard work, I would suggest a couple of dunks in mud would have a similar effect... If they are in good nic, why don't you try to sell the chromies and put the $$ toward a set of black sunnies...???Wadezz wrote:hey all

Hey,
A while ago when I had my triton I was going through the same process. I wanted black wheels and currently had factory wheels. In the end (the triton got stolen so don't have it any more) with my new car I just paid for black sunnies. $389 for 5 15X7 fitted, new wheels balanced and alligned. The best part about it. It took one phone call to order, and 1.5hrs to fit and I had them. There was no stuffing around trying to get the wheels and tyres to a shop to get removed, then getting the rims prepped, then painted, then drying time then back to the shop to be re-fitted, then back on the car.
$389 is cheap for peace of mind and having it all over and done with by 9:30am Saturday morning when I ordered them the day before.
My 2 cents.

hi
just last week bought 15x7 king rims navara offset for $60 each. off set is how far out or in the wheel sits.. someone who knows more might be able to describe that better for you.. i have heard zero offset is good.. i got navara and they are just legal with 31's. i would guess your 33's are 12.5 wide so without flares would stick out to much...

Offset is the distance from the centre-line of the wheel to the mounting face.Wadezz wrote:yeh m8 i think even not ofset will stick out to far so ill have to go and buy some flares not 100 percent sure yet tho wait untill its done then i can tell:P where did u get them for 65 bucks each? cause that really cheap for wheels ay well i thought they where more than that

Zero offset has the mounting face on the centre-line. Positive offset means the mounting face is closer to the outside of the wheel, bringing the whole thing closer to your vehicle (not usually desired).
Negative offset is the mounting face closer to the inside of your wheel, giving you a wider track, and more likely fewer rubbing problems.
Clear? There are repercussions to changing your offset though: The manufacturer generally sets a vehicle up so that the centre of rotation of a tyre is mid-way across the tread... (or thereabouts). If you go to a big offset wheel, you'll introduce new stresses in your steering and suspension members. Not always a hassle, but just so's you know.

I just did up a quick thing to explain it clearer. Please correct me if i've got it wrong...
Note that going from 7 inch to 8 inch, both with -15 mm offset, will actually bring your wheel CLOSER to your car... etc.

okay, i just rang tyre power
he basicly said for my modle car theres two king blacks i can get the one that ant offset and dont stick out or 23 negitive offset.
he said hell chance of rub with the offset but only thing is i will have to try buy some flares from somwhere or its illiagal to drive.
He said he thinks arb will sell them for my modle car so im going to ring up now to find out because im thinking ill have to get the flares but on before they can put the tyres on.
im guessing im gonna go for the 23 negitive offset tyres and buy some flares the guy priced me 79 bucks per king tyre which are the 15X7 offset king tyres.
