Call for help

Post by BundyRumandCoke »

Im in bed, as I am now officially unemployed, at around 9 tonight, when the phone rings. A guy from the club wants to know if I can give a hand in a recovery. Some guys were out playing in the mud, and got stuck. A call went out to memebers of the club, who embarked on a rescue bid. A semi comp Nissan, a couple of Hi Luxes, a pumped Jackaroo had gone out torescue a 100 series, and a Navara. 100 series was down to the chassis. Navara, which was in front, had been retrieved to high ground, but was stuck in front of the 100 series.

Before I got called, they broke a 9000kg snatch strap, a winch, and were having no luck moving the 100 with a Tirfor.

I told them I didnt know if I could help, as I have a dead CV and a snapped PTO cable. But, with the longer of the 2 lengths of winch cable, shovel, hi lift, and chains and shackles, I headed out to see if I could give a hand. With 3 wheel drive, I headed into the mire, and got stuck. I got snatched out and wondered how we were going to do it. Firm ground meant winching around a corner, with an extension strap, an idea I didnt like. I ended up taking a run into the mire again, getting as close as possible to the stuck 100. Anchored to a tree from behind, we set up a 3-1 winch pull, and I easily retrieved the 100 from the pit. Slow, but well within the capabilities of the winch and Rocky. I then had to self recover to reposition, then as the Navara got nowhere on its attempt back through the hole, I did a straight line pull through to get him out.

Some eyes were opened again, at the capabilities of the Rocky. I just gotta get round to changing that CV. The new winch cable will cost about $180 for 50 metres.

Unfortunately no, by the time I thought of the camera, we were already there and set up.

Yes, I know the golden rule, without pics, it didnt happen.

Shit happens. But I will keep an eye on the club website to see if pics emerge on it. If so, then they will be linked.

It's a wonder.... He seems to be constantly reminding us about his 2 little babies!

Well done David! Nice to see you helping out the folk with the 'less fortunate' types of four wheel drives. :D

I always get crap about my TRD sticker on the back window....
