Fitting auto to 1HZ
Looking at buying a hzj105 manual and would like to fit an auto.
Would fit the full hydraulic auto from an early turbo 80.
Been told these bolt straight up.
What else do i need?
cheers

few things, you can put the A442 behind the 1hz....you will need a 80 series dx transfer, as yours is behind a r series box, thesame transfer but different input shaft splines...a normal 80 series constant 4wd manual rear tailshaft will fit perfect on the back, i used to run this on a petrol auto with dx transfer. The front shaft will be normal auto....the only model to come out 1hz auto was the RV 105 and only for a year and a half, so they are quite thin on the ground, and were very popular with older cruisers.
getting back to your transfer, you could fit a h series front input shaft to it, but would then run the risc of gear noise

Confucious say...man who argue with idiot, worserer himself
you could very easily use the auto from a later 1hdt auto by adapting the tps from the 80 and tapping into the speed sensor wire that comes out of the speedo.
and you could pinch the consol etc from a petrol auto 100
as dow50r said you will have to play around with your transfer and tail shafts to get the correct lengths

They do exist, but are thin on the ground.
My box is partially electronic through (ECU under dash).

OOPS Forgot they made gxl ones too......but not for long....the 1hz was underpowered for the auto and weight of vehicle,, and Toyota wanted to sell factory turbo auto models instead, so they canned the model, pity, as an aftermarket turbo soon got things going nicely.....

Mine has an irritating pause 2-3 @ 240,000kmFrankenyota wrote:Looking at a HZJ105 1HZ auto cruiser this weekend.
Has a turbo and some extras.
The guy said he has had the auto rebuilt at 150,000 kms, which was 5,000kms ago.
Should i be concerned that it's already been overhauled at such low kms?
He said the auto wasn't shifting 3-4 gears properly.

I had the guys at Wholesale Automatics look at it, they specialise in these. Ignore it they said, it'll prob go to 350 at least. Extreme valve body would cover the twitch.

Ive drove Reeces wifes cruiser, and it goes surprisingly well, it was a transplant the other way round, hdt for 1hz, the 1hz has more down low than a factory turbo.
From what ive picked up on here, the electronic auto is a A442f and the hydraulic ones are A442 (no F) all sorts of things can make an auto shift funny...main one is lack of service, if the kick down isnt adjusted properly, it can cause overheating or banging when shifting too, the fact it has been fixed is of benefit to you as it should be in top condition.
