Clutch help....

Clutch help....
i have just gotten the gearbox down and the clutch etc off and one thing that the guide i have says is to check that the 'pilot bearing' rotates smoothly....... from the pic it looks like it is the one in the middle of the flywheel........
if that is the case mine does not move at all wiht my fingers.......
the guide points me to another section for its removal and from what i can tell this new section refers ot it as the rear end crank bearing...are they one in the same? and also is it a problem if it doesnt freely move?
thanks for any help........

Yo,
Can you get it off or does it not come off easily?
If you can get it off try cleaning it up and re-greasing it and see if it moves then?
Thats all I got but I don't really know what you're talking about, ha ha.
Looked at that bundy today. Looks alright but qld rego could be an issue.

will have picks once i get home to mums but the car isit dads which leads to an issue........
got a spigot bearing puller and got the 'bearing' out and its just a bloody solid copper sleave whihc is about 1.5sm long and 5mm thick walls....... from everything i have been told and seen there SHOULD be a spigot bearing in the centre of the flywheel....... is this correct on a fez? if so i cant seem to find it..........

My F300 definitely had a spigot bearing, replaced it when I did the clutch. The manual also shows a bearing.
That being said, older cars did use bronze bushes in place of bearings, but I would be surprised if they were fitted to Feroza's......
Any idea if the clutch had been replaced before ?

from what i can see from the bell housing bolts some work has been done before.....
spoken to a few clutch places and a daihatsu guy and the consenses is that my car SHOULD have a bearing but the late 80 models came with a bronze bush so as mine is a 93 they feel the only explaination is that it has had an engine swap........
the best solution that they have some up wiht is to use 2 of the bearings as they are exactly the same dimensions exept for depth (they are almost 1/2 the size) and 2 of them together only fall 1mm short of the depth of the bronze bush...
any warnings or anything about that idea?

yeh fair enough...... the depth of the sleeve that the bearing would be going into is 15mm and the bearing is only about half that.... would that matter?
also my next question is how tight onto the gearbox shaft should the bearing be? the spigot bearing they have listed for the fez is 15mm internal diameter whereas the shaft is 12mm diameter..... i have a feeling they have a cataloguing error but whatever
he has found one from another car which has a 12mm int. and the correct ext diameters so i was going to go wiht that but was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me the diameter of their shaft
and if they have had this problem in the past?

well that is the one they originally gave me but i would have needed 2 of them to fill the sleeve they went into.....
also 15mm was wayyy to big for the shaft from the gbox it was meant to support.....?
anyway i have ended up using 2 bearings out of some toyota that were:
ID 12mm
OD 28mm
Thick 8mm
also at the same time i was winding up the tbars for the new leafs in the back and to stop the tyre scrub and was just wonderingif anyone has a pic of how much they shaved their bump stops down and how the control arms sit

Not that's there's an easy alternative, but you do understand that by winding up the bars you are compromising "droop" travel which will hurt your Feroza's off road capability.
The classic problem is coming over a crest thats on an side angle - one front wheel will lift then no front traction.
Its a pity really, bump travel is good for on the road ride but droop travel works off road. With the Feroza its a difficult compromise.
BTW - if you have 31's and do serious off roading that causes repeated tyre touching you can develop cracks just in front of the A pillar. Consider some body lift to fix this - it can be more at the front than rear....
