Battery charger - recommendations?

Hi all,

Shopping for a 240v battery charger to get some life back into my cranking battery now that I'm finishing my rebuild.

Any recommendations of good chargers at less than or close to say $150? Figure I probably want a 3 stage (constant amps, constant volts, float) charger of around 4A but don't know enough to be sure.......

Will be buying a gel cell soon as a 2nd battery to power camping gear, so would rather buy a decent charger if required than damage the battery. However I probably wont need it often (1-2 times a year?).

I am loathe to say it, but the 12A charger Super Crap Auto sells does work a treat. They are reasonably priced and full 3 stage switch mode chargers.

I'lll never forgive myself for recommending them (cept mine came from cashies for $50)

Mate I would have to recomend a CTEK 3.6amp should be about $175, Smart charger does everything even a power supply can be left hooked up all the time does not interfer with anything electrical most campers/vans use them now. Water/dust proof.

CTEK, I have the 3.6A model but if I did it again I'd buy the 7A model

Hi Guys,

I took blkmav's advice (and others) and purchased a ctek multi xs7000. (about $300)
Great charger, really easy to use, charges all types of batteries.

As rot8s stated above the ctek can be used as a power supply as well.
this is great so you don't lose radio presets,codes etc.

I really like the fact that you can "set & forget" these chargers. It will automatically run through each step of the charge cycle and then switch to maintenance mode. it can be left in this mode for months!

Cheers guys, the CTEK 7000 does look the goods even if it is a bit expensive. Will have to take a hammer to the piggy bank
