Gearbox Swap

Post by SteveC »

I have just had my LT77 gearbox replaced with an LT77 out of a '88 Range. I am now having problems with it being hard to get into 1st thru to 4th and cannot get it into 5th at all. Major crunch every time. It will also hit 5th frequently when trying to get it into 3rd. Previously you had to pull it hard to the right to select 5th. We had to swap over all the selector assembly from old to new, as the later models had the gear levers swapped around.
Has anyone had this or know what could be the cause. The mechanic who has done the work has 30 odd years experience, but his is unsure of the problem. Need it fixed for Christmas Holidays.
Thanks in advance
Steve

Hard to select gears sounds like a clutch problem.
Is the clutch bled prooperly.

The sloppy gear shift sounds like detent springs not set correctly.

It's not so much a sloppy shift, it's that the gear lever seems to be further across to the right or out of alignment or something similar. You also do not have to pull the gear lever across to the right to select 5th, it seems to be already there.
