Post by Southie »

Everything on my instrument panel works odo the whole box and dice, but every now and then the speedo won't work, or will work intermittently, odo never stops just speedo, it shits me is all, does anyone know what the problem is? are the speedo's in the '92 Hilux electronically controled?

Cheers for whatever help you have

Some are some are cable look at the back of the T/case is there a small black thing on the drivers side of it with wires to it or a thick cable coming out. if it's cable and the odo is working all the time it'll be in the speedo head (Dash bit) need to pull it out or take lux to a joint that does speedo calibration and repair if your in brissy i can pm a number for you where we send our work stuff.

Not a cable mate, black thing with wires, so where to here from here? or is the whole panel gotta be replaced just because the speedo is fucked? or is the panel easy enough to pull out and check over or lubricate?

Also, where abouts on the net would I find the wiring digrams for the truck?

Check the conections on the speedo drive and speedo head get some CO2 cleaner and give it a clean apart from that might pay to buy a manual from super shit or ripco if that turn's up no fix pull the speedo cluster out and take it somewhere to be checked over

I just re-did mine -- 85` Hilux ----

Speedo wasnt working at all so I re-newed the inner cable - it was broken at the gearbox end (after I was told at the Speedo shop that that problem is usually caused by the Speedo Panel sticking -- Im a slow learner  )
Anyway, the cable broke again , straight away - 10 km down the track, so I went and bought a second hand Speedo Panel at the 4wd wrecker ( $65-00 ), and a second hand complete cable ( inner and outer -- $35-00 ) and havnt had a problem since
