Mount Jerry Can Holder On small Rear Door (Have Photos)

Have looked through the GQ/GU bible, Plus some other sites as well, but to know evale, Want to mount a jerry can holder on the passanger side rear door of my nissan wagon, have some idears my self, but before l start drilling hole in the back door, l would just ask if any body else has done this or any idears.
As l don't want swing away type that is mounted on the rear bar.

Do some more checking......... & you may find that mounting jerry cans to the back or front of a vehicle is illegal.......

Get hit in the rear... fractured jerrycan ... fuel spill ... one spark ....

However saying that why do arb and kaymar have provisions on there swing arm to carry a jerry can?

Any way a mate of mine got one built up for his GQ middy... He had one built by another company which didnt quite last the Outback so Warren from flamin fabrications built him another one...

Kaymar will advise that they are designed for carrying water jerry cans.
As stated illegal for fuel to be carried there.

I was going to say that mq came out with jerry can holders, so how is it illegal? But GUJonno made a good point, meant for water.

Well after siting in the shed and looking at the back door, over a few froffee's (Cans) l said to my self, well if the drivers door can carry a spare wheel all this time then, Then the weight of a spare wheel & rim and the jerry can holder seam to be the same weight, think that it will be alright.

So if it is illegal to carry fuel in a jerry can mounted on the back of your vehicle where are you allowed to carry them? Are the only legal options inside the vehicle & on a roof rack? and are you allowed to carry fuel in those side mount positions that are so common on camper trailers?

This ones been up the "top" and across the "guts"
and down "there" and hasn't buggered the hinges yet!
There are a couple of super brackets inside, so weight isn't on door skin.

Door Handle is is very close with 20L jerry in but can always open door.

This is a TJM Jerry can holder with a couple of bits of 20x20 box in behind
as spacers, Tricky bit is inside door to pick up on inner skin and hinge bracket and not reley on door skin to carry weight. Took a bit of thought to get just right , but not too hard.

Just a tip with the tube between the jerry holder and the door.

When I fitted 33" to my GU, I spaced out the wheel holder with lengths of 50 x 25mm tube. When I tightened it up the tube started to collaspe. I added some nuts/ washers inside the tube to prevent the tube collaspings.

I also used a old MTB tube rubber between the tube and the rear door to prevent damage etc. Just like the standard holder etc.

I'm guessing lookin at your pic you have done neither. Even if the tube isnt bending now, once loaded and bouncing over roxks it may work loose.

Thank you for your responce, have completeed the jerry can holder with lights and all but not mounted it on my truck as of yet, Have got photos but have not worked how to post photos as of yet, Will win soon.

No spacers inside box, would be a nice touch, dunno about the rubber inbetween, i used stainless box so less of a problem with rust,

i have had on there for about four years and its had a full jerry in it across the simmo and all of the Cape, on high country trips its full of recovery gear or rubbish. no probs yet.
