So I thought about buying a hilux but missed....

Post by Buggerific »

Went up the coast to look at a hilux...

Came home with an 88 HJ75 Troopy.

Heard rumors that the RTA were going to bring in a rule that the 11 seaters will need to go over the pits every year for rego. Not sure if there's any truth to that.

Does anyone know of any special requirements for the troopy's in regards to rego?

i know here in queensland there was talk of the law being changed. currently it is 12 seater or more. there are alot of dodgy troopys running tourist trips and fly below the inspection radar due to only being 11 seaters.

NSW car licence is up to 4.5 tonne and 12 or less seats.

The only advantage to registering it as a bus i can think of is being able to park in bus parking areas and loading zones, and using bus lanes (which is great in sydney)

In NSW a bus is any vehicle with 8 or more seats.

I don't know about a bus registed for private use, but for business use, there is already an annual pit inspection.

Fair enough... So basically as long as it's got regular car registration it's got regular car requirements.

When my troopy was still a troopy (HJ47) - a couple years back now - the rule was if it carries 9 people or more it needs to go over the RTA pits every year. I took the troopy to a garage for a pink slip, and the mech there told me it had to go to RTA - call RTA tech assist to find out. I took the rear benches out and had it engineered down to a 7 seater, so it would pass as a car.
