Anyone intercooled a ZD30 powered STR Navara

Post by dave_str »

I am thinking of intercooling 2006 STR Navara, just wondering if anyone has done it yet.

Cheers Tweaks, I seen that on the Navara forum.

I have been thinking of a water to air intercooler, still waiting to hear back from Denco Diesel.

forget those water/air barrels. i've seen the kits, they basicly go all the way to the raditior and fit the cooler length wise between the turbo and raditor. thats a loooong intake length. if you do the barrel, i would fit two shorter ones side by side.

should be able to fit a water/air intercooler inbetween the turbo and manifold. will need to turn the turbo a bit so mods to the inlet hose may be needed. the intercooler would need to be wide and short. with the inlet comin in from underneath.

would love one myself but just $$$$ is a big problem for me.

talk to ARE and see what they recommend.

I have had front mount intercooler on my D22 for about 2 years, it is easy to do and there is a few ways to go about it. Total cost under $150
On a hot day or after long periods of stop start driving where you get a lot of heat soak under the bonnet it helps alot to keep the power levels up.
Front mounting will add a bit of turbo lag but is dependant on pipe diameter also, i get 300rpm of extra lag.

I am yet to add an ECU, snorkel and exhaust but i will eventually.

Pics i took the other day for someone who asked for them

as the pipe diameter where the sensor is has changed, is there any difference in boost levels ??

Nope still runs the exact same boost levels as factory, removing the air box and running an open pipe straight off the front of the turbo gives a boost increase of approx. 1psi and 3hp at the wheels.
Removing the intake resonator also helped to get it on boost a little quicker but with alot of extra noise. I have had a pod filter fitted also but the decel noise thru the filter is loud and annoying
