Just a mental exercise here since I don't have any actual plans to do this, but I was looking under the SWB maverick thinking about dual transfer cases and clearly there is not much tailshaft to work with!

So I thought - you only need about 8" more room there... but moving the rear axle back would (though awesome) be a bit of a hassle because of the shape of the chassis rails, not to mention the shape of the cabin.

Then I thought - there's a massive unarticulated handbrake assembly right after the original transfer case and the tailshaft doesn't start articulating until AFTER that.

So *if* you were thinking of putting in a second transfer case in a shorty, what about eliminating the handbrake assembly?

You'd be able to engineer a cable based handbrake at the rear discs fairly easily, I'd think, and while it wouldn't be as good as the original, well, just park it in 1st-low-low and it's not gonna roll anywhere anyway!

Am I stupid? (This is not a poll. Don't answer that one.)

Why try to reinvent the wheel?

Just go with case gears and keep your superior driveshaft handbrake. To remove this you would need to recut the output shaft on the case to make it shorter, and accept the drive flange.
Built, not bought.

You need 9" for the adaptor and second case, so its EZ to move the rear diff back to cope with the extra leingth.

the output flange bolts straight onto the pinion flange!! :lol:

Sorry, the output flage...you mean from the t/case exit to the handbrake?

From my point of view, this is a smart ideea!!! To take out the handbrake assembly...hmmm....sound interesting!...as I moved back the rear axle with only 5.5"...and I would love to have dual transfer on my car!!
