The only pto I have any experience with is on my 66 FJ40. It had a Ramsey pto winch when I bought it, so yes, there are apparently different pto winches out there. As for putting one on an 83 pu??? Find out from dealer or someone smarter if Toyota made a pto for that t/c, or if you can adapt a t/c from a Land Cruiser.

Im not sure about the US but here in Aus some early 4sp Tcases had a PTO output on them. However i have never actually seen one with the drive gear or PTO installed. I know the parts are no longer available from Toyota.

The biggest problem you are going to have is working out how to actually drive the pump or PTO Shaft from a stock pickup transfer as to be able to winch while standing still you need to have the transfer in neutral. How you would be able to get a drive system from this i dont know.

PTO whinch can be operated in nutral or in gear wile driveing in high or low if you have a 83 cruiser it will have a split transfer case as long as you get the right pto drive for the transfer you have you can run any brand of pto whinch as far as i know you can still buy them new from thomas the early and late toyota pto drives are not interchangeable

First things first, have a look under the pickup to see if there is a side plate that unbolts off the transfer. If you find one, pull it and look for the straight cut gear teeth of a PTO gear.
Last yr i saw a 100 series diesel with twin capstans and a PTO. They drove it from the rear of the input shaft in the transfer (behind that thin plate steel cover that covers the rear bearing.)

Have a surf through ebay.com.au. There are 2 PTO's there one for a 40/45/55 series and another for a 75 series complete auction number 2447804870 .
