New GU rims

Post by grazza »

Right, just got myself a GU and the steel rims are looking a bit sad.
I reckon a new set of alloys would really improve the overall look.

I like the factory alloys on the new GU's - any idea how much $$?

I dont want anything too bling (no chrome crap) and still 16x8 but if the Nissan alloys are too exxy I would be thinking of something else.

I understand the factory steel wheels are well worth keeping.

I have GU rims on my GQ and I think they look good. I am thinking of painting mine in powder coat although others have stated that if they chip they look crap. Might be better off painting them with enamel.

Matt black is an option and could look ballsy.

I was thinking of painting them the same colour as the lower colour of my Mav which is a dark enameled grey.

Alloys are expensive and may look too 'pretty.'

If my memory serves me correctly I believe the GUIV and up 17" alloys are around $1100 RRP each from Nissan which is ridiculous although they are a very nice wheel. They pop up for sale on forums now and then for a much cheaper price so keep an eye out.

Went looking today, saw some factory 16x8 Nissan alloys at the wreckers - $340 each and very second-hand.

While I think the factory rims look good, I always think aftermarket ones look better, for all makes...

Anyway the limited rims that are the right offset/fitment for my GU are a bit limited. I like the ROH RTX rims. As it happens ROH were not answering their phone all day today so now one could give me a price. Thats very piss-poor by ROH I reckon - a whole freeking day with no distributor support.

I know I am being a bit impatient but I was hoping to get a set of new rims fitted on my RDO.

Maybe 16x8 sunraiseres (?) are the go...

By the way, the V8 GQ shorty is gone and I am now the very proud owner of a 4.2TD intercooled GU. :)

Yeah, I am starting to think that 16x8 white sunnies may look pretty good on my GU. Its burgandy (Maroon for a QLD'er!) which would not be my first choice colour but beggers cant be choosers for a 4.2TD under $24k

Another idea it is possible to paint the steelies white? I mean with a finish which will last for more than a couple of weeks...

These are looking like the favourites ATM.

They have steel nut inserts too.
