hey all...first drive of a '90 sierra..new motor..radiator...complete mechanical rebuild. First time in a zook...question: where should the temp gauge sit? Mine was pretty much parrallel to the dash ( horizontal) so not too far away from red area?...temp gauge went up when warm engine was at idle. Bonnet HOT to the touch. OUtside temp prob low 30's? I'm new to zooks but not to driving...seemed to be running hot to me?
Appreciate any feed back.

temp gauge
is it running the standard mechanical fan? maybe the waterpump isnt working?.. it sounds a bit strange. my 90mdl sierra sits below half all the time pretty much!
let it warm up with the rad cap off and once the thermostat opens see if you can see the water circulating through the radiator.. it will start flowing in one direction if the waterpump is working.

Zooks are for people that aren't afraid of angles and who have nothing to compensate for

thought I'd chuck this back up the top for any comments. ok...I've done a few more k's in it. It's sitting fairly consistantly just below half way mark (in line with the bottom sqiggle on the water temp icon on the dash) and when driving around is ok...when I pull up and leave the engine to idle it creeps up to just below the red zone within about 10mins?...remember this is a new motor..thermostat..water pump..radiator etc etc.
so again...is this a zok thing?...appreciate any feedback.

The temp gauge in mine sits just below half too.
Your problem sounds like an airflow issue if it's OK while driving but heats up when stationary.
Do you have thermos fitted? If yes, piss them off.
Does it have a viscous clutch fan? If yes, replace or change it to a fixed fan.
Does the radiator have a fan shroud fitted? If no, get one and fit it.
Is the fan belt loose? If yes, tighten it.

did you check the pump to face gap( where the gasket sits)? had this problem a few years ago in a stroker 308. went thiner gasket ran cooler but not enough, took it off again and shaved a bit off. went great! could do 2 minute plus burn outs in 35 deg and not boil where as i could only drive it up the road for 5 minutes of easy driving before it wolud boil. didn't change anything else
