What could be wet to cause this...
first up ... the names dave. had my '93 1fz-fe 80 series for like 2 years now. only recently had this problem...
one day my old man wet down the motor in an attempt to wash the car for me. ... damn he did a good job... thanks dad.
but to his amazment the car took forever to start... wet dizzy n coil WD40.
Finally the car started, when it did it would only revv to 2k, then it was like the injectors would cut out and would not re-engage untill the revs drop to 500-800 (idle)... about 3 hours of wd40'in and no clue.. i closed to bonnet left it over night and woah and behold it started, and no problems...
it was fine untill next time i went 4b'in, and washed it again. and it started on me again. this time i was at the car wash and had to drive home usin no more than 2000 rpm's... not too easy..
please any idea would be helpfulll...
also if it helps my fuel econ has gone to crap in the last couple months.... like gettin 3k per litre if im lucky.

mate if you wet you air flow meter you will have all sorts of problems.

it may already be to late, it might be stuffed already.
but sometimes you can dry them out and they will work fine.
but that is one part you dont want water getting into.
try drying it out and see how it goes.
if its still no good try and swap in with another one and see if the runs fine then.

You have done two possible things
1 spark plugs 3 and 4 right under the throttle body (where the air goes into the motor) are flodded with water, clean and dry them means taking alot of shit off, but this is real common...a new set of leads if the others are effected by oil is the way to go.
2 inside the dizzy cap water can get and stay and do this aswell, usually after a river crossing with this thou, if he used pressure cleaner then quite possible....go clean em up and you will be AOK

I second this. It would be pretty unlikely that you have got water into your AFM as they are pretty well sealed, but if you take your dizzy cap off, you will notice that on an 80 it has 2-3 breather holes. I have filled mine up and run a breather up to the firewall. As dow50r said, plug 3 + 4 is also an issue. Unfortunately, 80 series' are prone to water ingress and will still cough and splutter after water crossings etc.dow50r wrote:You have done two possible things
